Mervyn W. "Bill" Becker

Mervyn W. "Bill" Becker, 95, of Rock Falls, died on Monday evening, July 17, 2017 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. Bill was born on May 30, 1922 in Rock Falls to Ludwig and Nellie (Knight) Becker. He married Ruth Arlene Seidel on May 30, 1943 in Seattle, Wash. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2016. Bill was employed at National Manufacturing in Sterling for 34 years until his retirement. He was a US Army veteran and proudly served during WW II in the Medical Detachment 4th Infantry Regiment from 1942-1946. He was awarded the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, The American Theater Ribbon and earned 1 Service Stripe. Bill enjoyed bowling and working in his yard. He and Ruth enjoyed traveling to Montana, Arizona and California to visit their children. Bill was a member of Harvest Time Bible Church in Rock Falls. Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Sandra K. (Leland) Campbell of Bakersfield, Calif., Arlene A. Becker of Billings, Mont. and Barbara L. Winch (George Cline) of Ocean View, Hawaii; 4 grandchildren, Brett, Michael, Alicia and Ken; and 7 great grandchildren, Shane, Bryan, Kathaleen, Jessica, Valerie, Josh and Tristan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, and 2 sisters, Ardetta Mock and Delores Hoele. Graveside services will be at 11 AM Monday, July 24th, at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling with Pastor Dalmus Meeks, officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory.
