Michael Glass

GLASS-It is with great sadness but with thanks for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Michael James Glass, 88 years, of Indian Head on August 1, 2008. He left this world with grace and dignity, in his usual quiet and unassuming way and surrounded by the love of his family. Mike was born to a loving and joyful family, which he in turn gave to his family, friends and community. Mike, along with his 3 brothers, saw active service in World War ll. Mike served in Holland, Belgium, Germany and Italy where he was wounded. All four Glass brothers thankfully returned home, where they began their own families and careers. Mike married Teresa (Terry) Erhart in 1949 and they remained in Indian Head to continue with Mike's business and raise their four children. Mike gave his children a strong family base, a love of music and nature, and a strong work ethic. He captivated his children and grandchildren with stories of his youth and his family. There was nothing the children of the extended Glass family loved more than when the family gathered, and guitars were pulled out to accompany singing that lasted for hours, peppered with stories and remembrances of times past. Mike remained in business in Indian Head all of his years, and always supported various teams, organizations and community events. He enjoyed curling and watching hockey, but where he was able to most interact with people on a daily basis was the grocery business, where he was much loved. Predeceased by his father and mother, Harold and Elizabeth, brothers Jack, Harold, Joe and sister Mary, his memory will be cherished by his wife, Terry, of 59 years; children: Jenny MacFarlane (Don), Rosanne (Joe), Tim (Rhoda), and Ken (Esther), numerous grandchildren and step-grandchildren, sisters Madeleine Robson (New Denver), Betty Pachal (Edmonton), Alma Pachal (Edmonton), and numerous nieces and nephews. We will greatly miss his loving presence, his downto-earth nature, his appreciation for life, and his humour and story-telling. The family extends our deepest gratitude to Dr. Kamrul and the team at the Indian Head Hospital for the care given over the past while and for their thoughtfulness toward our family. Sincere thanks as well to the health care team on Unit 3F of the Regina General Hospital, who ensured Mike's comfort in his last days. The family would also like to thank Dr. Nel and the nurses at the Endoscopy Unit who also gave Mike such good care. The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Indian Head on Tuesday, August 5th at 10:30 a.m. Interment of cremated remains in the Indian Head Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the to the Dr. A.J.M. Davies Arena for the installation of an elevator, c/o The Town of Indian Head, Sask., S0G 2K0, so that persons with disabilities can continue to watch their family and friends in varied activities.
