REV. MICHAEL J. HIMES

HIMES, Rev. Michael J. A widely respected, Catholic theologian and beloved Professor of Theology at Boston College, passed away on June 10, 2022, at the age of 75. Father Himes was a Professor of Theology at Boston College from 1993 to 2021 where his teaching, preaching, and ministry became integral to many aspects of the Boston College experience. Prior to his time at Boston College, Father Himes taught at the University of Notre Dame from 1987 to 1993 and served as Dean of the Seminary of Immaculate Conception in Huntington, NY, from 1977 until 1987. He was awarded a Ph.D. in the history of Christianity from the University of Chicago, and was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Brooklyn, NY, in May of 1972. A native of Brooklyn, he is survived by his brother, Kenneth R. Himes, OFM and his sister, Eileen M. Himes as well as his nephew, Andrew Moschner and his wife, Lauren. Predeceased by his parents Robert and Mary, née Gill. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Church, 28 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill, on Tuesday, June 14, at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with his family at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the Funeral Mass. Interment will be private.
