Michael Hurley

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Michael Hurley, leaving behind a family who loved him, and a love for the Seattle Mariners, rain, and really big dogs. He exited this world the way he lived-on his own terms and surrounded by the people who mattered most.

Born and raised in Snohomish, WA, Michael attended Snohomish High School, where he developed his lifelong love of music and baseball. He was drawn to the vibrancy of Seattle, where he eventually made his home. He embraced the city's culture, its ever-present rain, and the community he found in its music and sports.

Michael is survived by his parents, Terry and Teresa Hurley of Snohomish; maternal grandmother, Darlene Burgess, paternal grandfather, Howard Hurley; sister, Amber Maechler; brother-in-law, Mike Maechler; and his three nephews, Carson, Dylan, and Easton whom will now have to look elsewhere for the "cool uncle" influence. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, paternal grandmother and his beloved Great Dane, Finnigan, who undoubtedly greeted him on the other side with the enthusiasm only a 150-pound dog can muster.

Michael was many things-music lover, dog whisperer, rain enthusiast, big brother, beloved son, and reluctant optimist about the Mariners' playoff chances-but above all, he was fiercely himself. His family will forever miss his wit, his love of music, and how he made even the gloomiest Seattle day enjoyable.

A private celebration of life will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local animal shelter in Michael's name.
