Michael Jacobsen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 9 to Jun. 10, 2010.
JACOBSEN, Michael Anton January 24, 1940 - June 4, 2010 From his strong family roots, Mike also had wings as he travelled the world to build schools, install camps and erect a diverse range of structures. Mike made many good friends, appreciated his extended family, enjoyed watching hockey and the Chuckwagon races, camping in the bush and barbequing huge meals. Mike loved to laugh and had an excellent sense of humor - he brought good fun and smiles to those around him. At the age of 70, Mike died as he lived - in the loving embrace of his girls. Born in Bassano, Alberta, Mike grew up in Brooks. Mike graduated from SAIT's journeyman carpenter program. He completed his apprenticeship with Jacobsen and Sons, in Brooks, Alberta. Mike worked with ATCO in Calgary before starting his own construction company in 1978, All-Mod Structures, an active and successful venture that he operated for more than twenty-five years. Mike worked on the Planetarium/Science Center, Canada Olympic Park and Macleod Trail Mall in Calgary, and hundreds of schools around the province and up North. In retirement, Mike loved to cook, garden and spend time with his grandchildren. Mike is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Fern; his daughters: Bonnie Vandenberg and her son, Michael, and Michele Jacobsen-Thoresen (Terry) and their two sons, Erik and Kai, and Karen Maniaci (Paul) and their children, Madison and Anthony, whom all live in Airdrie, and his brothers, Tom, Bob and Jim, and his sisters, Carol and Janet. Mike was predeceased by his infant grandson, Johnathan, his sister Susan, and his parents, Oscar and Elenora. To email expressions of sympathy: [email protected], subject heading: Michael Jacobsen. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the magnificent Aspen Road team, and caregivers at Bethany Care Center. A Celebration of Mike's Life will be held at the Bethany Care Center in Airdrie, 1736 - 1 Avenue, Airdrie, Alberta in the Auditorium on Friday, June 11, at 5:00 p.m. Mike loved the outdoors and grew the most amazing sunflowers. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to: Bethany Care Center Airdrie, 1736 - 1 Avenue, Airdrie, Alberta T4B 2C4, specifically for the ""Aspen Road Walking Garden Fun"".
