JANIS, Michael John (Mike)
August 4, 1951 – October 10, 2014
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Mike Janis, our son, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Mike's passing was comforted by having his family by his side. The Prayer of Separation of Body and Soul was given by Father Cornell Zubritski.
Mike grew up in Edmonton before moving to Saskatoon to start a family. His devotion to raising three children in a loving home encompassed his life. Whether it was coaching soccer or enjoying time with the boys at the golf course, his love for his children was abundant and complete.
Spending time with family and friends brought constant joy to Mike, creating a stage for his many stories. Cooking had always been his passion. His culinary skills were well known to family and friends, as was his enthusiasm for creating new and wonderful dishes.
He will be forever loved and missed by his mother, Joana; his children, Scott (Ilene), Adam, and Kirsten; granddaughters, Anna and Sarah; sisters, Eleanor Gasparik and Leslie (Max) Vandersteen; and many other family and friends. Mike was predeceased by his father, Walter.
Special thanks to the University of Alberta Hospital ICU ward for their exceptionally warm and compassionate care. Cremation has taken place and, per Mike's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. On October 12, 2014, his immediate family gathered for a celebration of his life. Memorial donations in memory of Mike may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation.
