Michael O'Donnell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 24, 2025.
Michael Patrick O'Donnell, 81, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, in Port St. Lucie, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 3, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, Mike lived a life full of love, laughter, and purpose. He raised his children in Bensenville, IL, and after many meaningful years there, he retired to Port St. Lucie to enjoy life at a slower pace.

Mike had a long and colorful career. He owned and ran several businesses, including American Fire and Safety Bureau, Rubino's Lounge, and Mike O'Donnell's Irish Pub. Later, he served proudly as a northern area administrator for the Illinois State Fire Marshal. Through it all, Mike worked hard, made lifelong friendships, and always found a way to bring people together.

He was married to the love of his life, Sharon, for 36 wonderful years. Together, they raised a son and five daughters, building a strong, loving family that continues to grow-20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and another on the way. Mike's greatest joy was being a husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa. His dedication to family was unmatched, and his presence will forever be felt at every holiday, backyard barbecue, and big life moment.

Mike loved life. He was a proud fan of the Chicago Bears and Notre Dame football, often catching games with friends at American Legion Post 318. He enjoyed golfing with his son, sons-in-law, and buddies at Maple Meadows, and his lake home at Abbey Springs in Lake Geneva was his happy place. Retirement brought him even more blessings-time with his grandkids, great-grandkids, and quiet moments surrounded by those he loved most.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sharon; his son Terry; his sister Corinne; his brothers John, James, and Patrick; and his parents Arlene and John.

Mike is survived by his daughters Cheryl (Randy) Lobello, Jill (late Terry) O'Donnell, Suzanne (Rick) Tinkle, Janine (Donald) Friedel, Erin (Eric) Stevens, and Jillien (Michael) Waldron.

He leaves behind a large and loving extended family, including many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom adored him.

A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 426 West Avenue in Elmhurst, IL. Family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 AM, with the mass to follow from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Luncheon to follow at Mike O'Donnell's Irish Pub 9573 Franklin Ave, Franklin Park, IL 60131.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Treasure Coast Hospice. https://treasurehealth.org/292/Donate

Mike's kind soul, generous heart, and quick wit left a lasting mark on everyone he met. His stories, laughter, and love will live on through the family and friends he cherished so deeply. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. Raise a glass and share a toast "Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis" Until we meet again MOD.
