Michael Palmer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 14 to Feb. 15, 2011.
PALMER, Michael (Mike) David October 7, 1943 - February 11, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Michael Palmer on Friday, February 11, 2011. Mike was born in Oldham, Lancashire in 1943 and immigrated to Canada in 1953. Mike was a kind and giving man with a very unique sense of humour. He loved cars and motorcycles and even raced mini-stocks at Race City Speedway. Always a storyteller, Mike also loved participating in a lively debate and would often bait anyone he could into having one with him. Mike will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him. He has now joined his father Albert; mother Ethel; and daughter Amanda. His legacy lives on in his wife Susan; his children, Trevor (Eran), Shauna (Douglas) and Kirsten (Geordee); his five grandchildren; his brothers, Andy (Cathy) and John (Cindy); and his niece Leigh-Anne and nephew Nathan. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Mike's honour may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 - 14 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 (Telephone 403-264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca ). In living memory of Mike and Amanda Palmer, trees will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH. Telephone: 403-276-2296.

Hi Grandpa,
I've been thinking about you a lot recently, thinking of things we used to do together, things you taught me in life, things I hoped you would be able to see me accomplish. I keep thinking of what tattoo I'm going to get to keep you close and I keep remembering you lacing up my skates, even though you knew I could do it myself, you were always happy to help me, always making sure they were just the right tightness. I miss those early morning practices and weekend games, that you always came to watch and cheer me on at. I can't skate anymore, I tried about a year ago and I failed hard, probably because I don't have you to tie my skates just right. I miss you more than you can know, love you to infinity and back again no returns,
Maria

Oh Susan it was just yesterday while visiting with Connie that I heard of the passing of Mike and Amanda. My heart sunk. Thinking of you. Just letting the unimaginable sink in. Even though we have not seen each other for a very long time the place in my heart for you, Mike and Amanda is forever, and also Trevor, Shauna, and Kirsten.

Mikey,
It has been a full year since we said our very final goodbye. This last year has brought the inevitable changes, but some things remain the same. Although I know that someday it will diminish, the ache in my heart will never completely go away. You were, and always will be, my one true love. I knew that on our very first date, almost 42 years ago. I miss you and all we shared together so very much.
All my love, forever and always

Well Daddy, it is hard to believe it has been a year already. A lot has happened in that year. I have thought of you many times and cried quite a few. The one that caught me off guard was the pyjamas. We were in a store and the one pair said "Moose Caboose" the other "Bear Bottom" I started crying in the store because I realized I would never be called "Bear" again and that you have been spending all your time with your "Moose Caboose". I bought the pyjamas anyways because that is what a Palmer does. Here is the photo of Maria and I in our jams.

Thinking of you today more than others and remebering all the times we asked each other if this was a 'card' year. I wish with all my heart that I could give you a card today. I love you and miss you so very much. Suzy

I have many fond memories of Mr. Palmer. Walking to the Palmers house to go hang out with Amanda and Mr. Palmer (Mike) would often be in the driveway fixing cars, motorbikes or trucks......he would be all greasy and he was in his element…he would have his nice big smile to welcome me….I remember he would walk through their kitchen and hear a conversation his girls and I would be talking about and he would come to join in with some kind of smart humor…or just listen and laugh at us… Amanda, Shauna or Kirsten (or all 3 of them together) would also banter back and forth with him ….they had so much fun together and I remember the laughter….there was always laughter. I loved the time I spent with your family and I feel so honored that I got to see his love and devotion for Sue, his children and grandchildren. My deepest sympathies are with all of you. Somehow I feel comfort in knowing he is with Amanda now….

I wish I could be there with you in this time of sorrow. My love and thoughts are always with you.

From our family to yours, our thoughts and prayers are with you all in your time of loss. I still see the image in my mind of Mike coming out of the house with hands on his hips chasing me away from swinging on the rope fences. At the time It curbed my impatience waiting for someone to play with. We are all thinking of you.

I am so sad I cannot be there.Michael will be missed by us all. My fondest menories are with him on the ice coaching the girls. He always had a quiet but strong presence that was so calming when we were trying to get the girls to do something new. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this sad time.

How blessed is the tie that binds our hearts in lasting love,
The comradeship of kindred minds is like to that above.
So when at last we have to part in sorrow and in pain
We know we still are joined in heart, until we meet again.

Happy Valentine's Day, Darling

love always

Sue and Family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time of great sorrow.

Mike was an outstanding man, with a great sense of humor and who always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell you. We enjoyed working with him at Royop Corporation for 5 years and know that he will be sadly missed.

God bless you and your family.
