Lt. Michael T. Tilley

Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Public Servant, Lieutenant and Coach. These are words that describe a man who defined perseverance. Michael Timothy Tilley, 49, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 12, 2019, surrounded by his family, after privately battling cancer for several years. He was an amazing husband and the world's best daddy. He was recently promoted to Lieutenant with the Hanover County Sheriff's Office, where he fulfilled his true calling as a police officer. Mike served as the sergeant of the Safe Streets Unit prior to his recent promotion and was renowned in the traffic safety community. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with his family and coaching his daughter's softball team. He was loved and respected by many and his memory will live on.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard J. Tilley. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Ann; his daughter, Caroline; his mother, Judy Tilley; his sister, Shelly Kern (Steven); his brothers, Jim Tilley and Paul Tilley (Cheryl); and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 11220 Nuckols Road, Glen Allen, Va. 23059, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Friday, January 18, 2019, at 2 p.m.
