Michael was born at Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco. He is the third son of Mary and Harold Zlot of Ross California and youngest brother of Andrew and Jefferey Zlot of Marin County. Michael grew up in the town of Ross and graduated from Ross School and Redwood High School. Despite being born with cerebral palsy Michael became an avid sports-fan, participating in little league baseball and downhill skiing at Squaw Valley. He also nurtured a passion for professional sports and was a dedicated fan of the Oakland A's and Dallas Cowboys to the chagrin of his friends and siblings. His dedication to sports was matched only by his loyalty in relationships. Michael was a steadfast friend and a loyal brother and son. Michael attended both the University of the Pacific and the University of Las Vegas. While in Las Vegas Michael was able to combine his sharp business skills with his love of sports, and this passion continued for years until his death. Michael is survived by his mother and father Mary & Harold, brothers Andrew (Angela) & Jeffery (Connie), and nephews Jacob, Sam and Noah. There will be a private service on June 13 at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Rodef Shalom Mental Health Initiative & the Young Adult Family Center at UCSF Foundation attention: Dr. Kim Norman. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I miss Michael a lot and hearing his hysterical sense of humor. He was a fierce card player and tried to teach me, but I´m not that quick. My dad loved him dearly and I´m pretty sure they are both playing cards in heaven arguing about sports teams. I miss them both a great deal. The world is less funny and joyous without them.

Today a lost memory popped into my head of Michael. As children one summer, we attended the same tennis camp. Even though Michael was born with cerebral palsy and the challenges that came with that, he stuck it out on the courts. He is someone to look up to for that. He is missed.

Just seeing this post. My prayers go out to the Zlot family. Always such a strong and positive example of a loving family in Ross. I remember great class celebrations at the Zlot home. Peace to you all.

Michael and I were best friends when we were 8 years old. I am remembering sneaking around the Zlot house in Ross, killing ants, riding a giant tire swing, playing the Atari 2600, swimming in the pool (the bottom strewn with slobbery rocks dropped by their golden retriever, Ginger), trips to Captain Video, army men battles in his room, Michael teasing me for not liking ketchup (threatening to give it to me as a birthday present), hours and hours of James Bond, A's and Cowboys games on TV.
Probably the biggest influence he had was bringing me to Summer Camp with him. He never returned (not enough sports), but I went back every year and it became a big part of my life. So thanks for that, Michael (and Mary and Harold).

I am so so sorry to hear of Michael's passing. He was such a joy when we were at Ross school together. My deepest condolences.

Dear Mary & Harold,
I have many fond memories of Michael and the Zlot family from Ross Grammar School days. I always admired Michael's steadfastness and determination. Mary, you were the perfect mother you were admired by the Ross faculty and staff for the kind and gently way you helped all of us learn to encourage Michael in every possible way. I especially remember little acts of accommodation for Michael; such as Scott Carroll, the Ross School Custodian, who built a special device in the boy's restroom so that Michael could comfortably use the facilities as easily as his classmates. You were always there for him and for us. I am proud to have known Michael and the Zlot family and to have been a small part of his very young school experience. I send you my warmest words of comfort.

I have many great memories of visiting my
cousins in Ross. As children we played hide and go seek, rode around in their battery powered cars, and ate the most sugary cereal I could imagine. Michael and I are the same age and I am truly heartbroken to hear of his passing. Sending love to Aunt Mary, Uncle Harold, and my cousins Andy and Jeff. I will be there in spirit on Thursday.

Oh, I feel sad today. My heart and condolences go out to Mary, Harold and family. Thanks Mike and Zlot family for showing and teaching me such courage, strength, resilience, fierce determination to live and thrive despite challenging circumstances! I am so moved and inspired by your love, care and commitment to Mike and family! LOVE IN ACTION! I suspect Mike was tired from finding the energy and strength each day to live his life on his terms despite his disability. Mike, you deserve some peace from your life WELL LIVED!!
