Yesterday I tagged along with neighbor friends when they went to Miramar National cemetery. After they put flowers on their parents' graves we went to find Mike's memorial plaque. It took a while. The administrative offices are closed on weekends but we had a map and found it.
A funny story goes with the "headless" picture. I met Mike at Long's drug, across the street from my work. I'd take my film there for developing. Mike worked the photo counter. He always told people he never knew who was in the picture because their heads were cut off. I guess he might be right.

If any of you who attended Mike's service at Miramar National cemetery or the celebration party took pictures, will you please share them here? Several who could not attend asked for pictures. Thank you all for being there and for your support.
The link that follows is a video of the service taken by our daughter-in-law. she turned her phone sideways for landscape view, so it is best if you can open the link using your phone or a tablet so you can also view in landscape.

Thank you all who have vsited this site and have left touching comments, donations and great pictures to share your personal memories of Mike. I know he truly appreciated the time he had with each of you. And he is smiling seeing how that feeling has been reciprocated by everyone. I am grateful that through my husband I have made so many friends and your support has sustained me over these tough times.
I have been asked by friends who can't participate to send pictures. Don't know if the National cemetery allows picture taking but certainly OK at the celebration party to share on this site so all can see.

As anyone who knew Mike can attest, he was a terrific, fun loving guy. Too many stories to share here. I worked for and with him (as well as Sandy) for several years. Bill and I loved our visits with them and just wished we lived closer to spend more time together. Heaven must be having fun with him there.

I'm late adding to this mixture of memories because I still don't feel like Mike is gone. We only saw Mike and Sandy at special occasions even though we don't live far apart. The last time I saw him was Sandy''s Birthday and so this is like a normal time apart until the next special occasion. We were on a trip when he died. Looking at all the pictures and comments remind me of the good times we had. He was truly the nicest man I knew. I'm not ready to accept that he is no longer in our lives. I know I will have to accept it but I'm still waiting for the next special occasion. When it comes there will be a big hole in it.

These pictures substantiate the humor that runs in Mike's family. Mike and his son Russ were facing the front of the chapel when my brother walked me down the aisle. I didn't want to let go of Tom's arm when they turned around.

Every year Mike and long time friend, Don Drew, would meet at Pismo Beach for a few days to ride the dunes, sample local cuisine and make quality control checks at the local pubs. This picture is of their last trip in January.

Thanks, Felicia for posting the pics of your Anguilla wedding and our Turks and Caicos trip for your sis's wedding. Fun times! I remember what a great driver Mike was with our Scooter Bob's rental car, while he was driving on the "wrong" side of the road, and we all had our liquid refreshment in hand. It was legal! Here's a pic of your Mom and Mike at the beach-side bar at your wedding, and one of your in-laws with you and Kev.

Mike was such a great person to travel with. He was easy going and ready for fun. A special memory is when we were all together for our wedding in Anguilla and on a separate trip went to Turks and Caicos for my sisters wedding and then were able to spend some extra days there exploring the island.

These are the latest dated pics so far. First is Sis-in-law, Nancy's birthday party, early March with Mike and my bros. Second is at Tackitt Vineyards, Paso Robles in February. Last is my birthday dinner with family at Outback on 3/16. No clue there was any health issue, not even a symptom. Still trying to process this.

Volunteering was important to Mike. He also liked to walk so what better way go volunteer than to organize "The Plodders," his Home of Guiding Hands group for their yearly Walk/Run for Independence fundraiser.Cheryl and Cal Mason joined in. He even met and chatted with former Padres pitcher Randy Jones

Jody posted an earlier picture of a descriptive rock that Mike "found" in Death Valley. He gave it to Jody to take home to her friend, who is so creative and talented in the art of painting rocks to give them life. This rock struck a chord and became the greeter on the entry step of our RV, where Mike sits and
smiles. He was always so subtle, right? Thanks, Jody for being Mike's little sis cousin, and for being a close friend to me too. We had so many fun visits to you and travels together. Great memories make us smile.

Mike really loved trains. We have been members of the Sacramento train museum for years and made it a priority to stop in when we were up there for work or pleasure. There was a plan to build a model train layout but collecting got sort of out of control and he realized we'd need the entire garage to accommodate all the track and cars. Pictures were taken at a train museum in Alaska that we visited when we were on our 2004 trip.

There is an update for anyone planning on attending Mike's services at Miramar National cemetery on July 22. They would like us to arrive at the administration building 15 minutes before the ceremony and park in lane #3. The group of cars will be led to the site of the ceremony, which starts at 11:30am.

Casual was our favorite outfit, but when we did dress up, we did a good job. The annual Military Ball was always so fun with dining, dancing and catching up with our friends from the 56th Aerial Port Squadron.

Oh please Dad, can we go for our walk now? (PS Poppy and Mom are doing walks twice/day, although not around the long up and downhill trek around our "block". Sorry friends who miss petting Poppy. She misses you too.)

I didn't know Mike outside of the Aerial Port world but I had the utmost respect for him. He was always level headed, kind and had encouragement for those he came in contact with. My condolences to his family and friends. End-of-Mission, my good Chief.

Sending more pics, not in chronological order, and an update on services, which will be held on Monday, July 22nd at 11:30 at Miramar National cemetary. The services will last for 30 minutes, which includes an honor guard coming from March Air Force Reserve base. There is minimal seating, and it may be sunny/hot, so if you plan to attend please take this into consideration. There will be an informal celebration after the services at the Adamson home in Poway.

Off-roading in the Imperial sand dunes was always a family affair. The kids loved it and we had a huge trailer to haul the toys. Mike was very careful to make sure that they practiced safe riding habits. Then there is our fearless leader.........
