Remember seeing Mike at Blackpool on the pier one evening back in the 70s with my Mum and Dad. Was blown away by his piano skills. Imagine my surprise when he comes into my surgery in Wakefield asking to sort out his Teeth. When I told him I played keyboards in a band and could play my version ofVictoria Roll he kindly gave me the original score he had written.
Sorry it's late but my condolences to his family. I'm a million mile from his talents but Mike you inspired me to be better at piano.

Mike was my chauffeur for a few weeks when I was on diplomatic business in London in the cold war year of 1979. My top secret mission was of the highest importance and it was only Mike who knew that I was there to prevent almost certain nuclear armageddon. It was a very pressured negotation between the government that I was representing and the other interested party concerned.
To be honest, it looked as though World War 3 and the end of civilisation was imminent until Mike gave me some totally left field advice as I sat slumped in exasperation in the back of the Limousine.
It seemed very risky indeed, a true high stakes gamble, but lo and behold, Mike's advice worked! I can't obviously shed much more light on the exact circumstances of that final, history changing summit meeting but needless to say that Mike was no ordinary chauffeur, this man saved the World as we know it. It doesn't get bigger than this.
Mike Terry, saviour, hero, changer of history.

I knew Mike when he delivered my papers and milk in Leeds back in the late 60's. Blooming great sense of humour that lad for sure. Always brightened my morning when he'd crash through my garden gate and shout out "Come and get your cow juice!" at the top of his voice while doing impressions of the stars and singing his favourite Winifred Atwell tunes.
Bless him, the big old chap!

I met Mike after his one man Dorothy Squires show in London in the West End. It was the best show that I've EVER seen, by a country mile. Brilliant. A few thousand lucky souls were in that theatre to see a piece of iconic entertainment. Hit after hit belted out by Mike in his own indomitable fashion and style. As an entertainer he was unmatched. As a bloke, as I can vouch for after meeting him for a chat and a couple of drinks, he was number A1 boss!
Never forget you Mike!

Mike was my hero when I was growing up. He always used to give me the motivation to succeed in my life even though I had little to enjoy as a child except his inspirational music. Even today whenever I hear the opening lines of "Torremolinos" by Mike, I well up with tears. I hope he would be proud of me today as his positive lyrics and tunes have made me the man I am now. I have changed my name by deed poll to an anagram of my hero Mike and I class my spiritual home as Wakefield even though I live in Luton. Heroes never die Mike, they just become immortal...

"Kindness is like snow.
It beautifies everything that it covers"
These were the words that still resonate with me deeply that Michael Terry sang to me which were to be the opening lines to his comeback single which, unfortunately, never got released back in 2013.
The World has lost a good person. Goodbye Mr Terry...

I met Mike when he was performing as a high flying, almost superhuman, trapeze artiste for the Hippodrome Circus in Great Yarmouth in the Summer of '78. Me and Mike used to be the star turns every single night and we would strut around Yarmouth getting recognised by starstruck fans in every single pub and club that we frequented, and believe me, we visited plenty! Mike would stick to his usual of a whisky and soda while I would stick to my usual of 28 pints of brown ale before we visited the nightclubs where Mike would take over the dancefloor with his polished and downright sassy moves. He would be on there all night, dancing to the point of exhaustion, bathed in oceans of sweat, blinded by the lights that silhouetted his manly frame, but still utterly majestic and everyone who set eyes on him couldn't take their eyes off him. Everyone wanted to be the lucky one that Mike wanted to hang out with afterwards.
I miss you like crazy Mike, you circus star performing, disco dancing, heart-throb monster of a man!

Theres not a day that goes by where I do miss mike. Hes in my dreams, my waking thoughts. I even see him in my work place. Every time I feel down mike was always there to put a smile on my face. Full of surprises he use to bring me my pack lunch... pigs in blankets... baguettes even made sure I got plenty of my five a day with banana . Ill never forget his Generosity especially when it come to tight sticky situations. He always fount a way in and out especially when putting his finger on the button. His cheeky mischievous ways always kept me sitting on the edge of me seat. Mike thank you for the pleasure and laughter you bought to my life and many others. Heart of gold and fingers that played a tune faster then a fiddle. Much love barry

I met Mike after a stellar performance in Tadcaster in 1983 - a true musical professional, and I was surprised to learn as we sipped our whiskey, a fellow roundabout enthusiast - indeed, a fully fledged member of the British roundabout society! We promised to meet again to explore the magical metropolis of Milton Keynes but alas, I only made it as far South as Kettering. I liken Mike's life to that of a roundabout - we approach at our own speed, join the gentle flow of life and leave at our chosen exit. RIP Mike - We will one day explore Milton Keynes in the sky.

I was hugely fortunate enough to follow Mike around the entertainment scene both at home and abroad since the 70's right through to the premature end bought on by failing health around about 2010.
Mike's act was so full of life, laughter and happiness, just like the great man himself to be honest. He never took himself too seriously and always had a smile on that kind, handsome face of his.
A brilliant classically trained pianist and an accomplished singer who had many releases on vinyl courtesy of President Records who supported Mike loyally over the years.
He was such a talented man but also a very friendly, gregarious and humble human being who enjoyed meeting his adoring public whenever possible spending time talking and listening to his fans for hours on end, giving up his time without any thought.
I look back with genuine affection for this gentleman of the music industry and I am so very proud for him that there are so many lovely tributes to him on this site. He touched many people's lives all across the World as these many tales tell.
I am terribly sad that he passed away at a relatively young age but I know for sure that Mike lived his life to the absolute full and experienced wonderful times and shared lifelong friendships with the endless people that he met on his many travels.
I will never, ever forget you Mike and when I look up to the heavens at night when the day has ended I am reminded of you when I search out the brightest shining star up there in the darkness. The brightest stars never die Mike, they shine on forever, never losing their magic.
Bless you Mike Terry. Sadly missed but always celebrated by myself and many, many others who were fortunate enough to have found you...

Mike sold me a 2004 plate Jaguar car for a bargain price. I really appreciated how he told me all about the fly wheel fault and the slight leak it had. Best car i ever spent my cash on. When I sold it on shortly after for a massive profit to my elderly neighbour, Irene, i bought Mike a bottle of wine and some chocolates to say thank you. Heart of gold Mike, miss you mate.

Mike often performed at the opening and closing party at Flamingo Land, North Yorkshire. He would often perform a variety of hits followed by a ride on his favourite 'The Bullet' and a huge fireworks display. People at the time didn't realise that Mike actually scored, and performed most of the parks theme music. Including my favourite. Billy Bob's Rock-Afire Show.

I still see that large animatronic bear and imagine Mike there with his guitar.

RIP Mike. Wild Animals, Wilder Rides!

Mike used to get his takeaway from me on a Friday night. Same order every time. I still remember now.
Large Cod, 2 battered Sausage, large chips, curry sauce, gravy, 3 pickled eggs, 2 bread baps and a can of Dandelion and Burdock.
He always came in with that big smiling face telling me he was starving! Val used to wind him up by telling him we'd run out of potatoes and it'd be an hour's wait. Mike's bottom lip would tremble a bit until he saw the fryer full of his favourite golden chips. Then he'd jump up and down excitedly as we covered his feast fit for a king in lashings of salt and vinegar then wrapped it all up. He'd be out of that door like a bullet from a gun, desperate to demolish his Friday treat.
Always a top lad and from what I gather, a cracking singer and artiste too!

I often saw Mr Terry walking along the canal bank , hands behind his back, fedora on his head, enjoying the tranquillity of nature. We chatted about the birds that flew serenely across the water and the dragonflys that hovered and darted amongst the reeds and water lillys. In the Summer I would see him early in the morning as the day was just beginning and then later, as the day was ending, with the sun descending, I would look out of my upper window, I would see this gentle man silhouetted against the dying embers of the orange ball, lowering in the sky looking out over the water, his shadow casting out behind him. He would spend hours enjoying nature and he was lovely company. I do miss him and when I look out across the water sometimes I think I can still see him, standing there alone, with a smile on his face......

Mike invented the hit 70's game "Tin Can Alley". It was brilliant to see him create this classic family item. He giggled as he shot the cans and said to me "Hee hee hee, i shot all the cans down!"
That was Mike.

Mike and me used to go to local swimming baths and got up to all sorts of mischief! He was a real funny lad and when things got out of hand and we went too far Mike always had gift of the gab to get us out of trouble... most of the time anyway! We got banned in the end but Mike had a great idea to go in disguise. It worked brilliant as i went as a Bob Marley lookalike and Mike based his appearance on Fu Manchu.
No one was ever the wiser and we enjoyed many more years in that pool.
Lovely memories.

In 1959 Mike knocked me out in the first round of our Northern Area Heavyweight Championship bout in Shipley. I was favourite going into the fight but after he hit me with 17 vicious sledgehammer right hands in my jaw I was rendered unconscious for over 10 minutes.
As I came round in the ring, having been completely destroyed by his fists, I'll never forget Mike's kind face smiling down at me, showing concern for me, as he helped me to my feet.
A true champion in every sense of the word.

Mike was a friend of mine. We went to a major music festival each year and he always was asked to sign autographs, have photographs and generally treated like royalty. Everyone knew him and everyone loved him. At the Sundown festival in 2008 he actually was asked on stage by the event organisers at short notice and he had the entire crowd in the lap of his hands singing along and waving their lighters in the darkness to a wonderful rendition of "The Wine Is There".
Absolute magic from Mike.
He was, and always will be a star.

The most pleasure I ever took from a first listen of an album was Mike Terry's wonderful release "Hurt".
I bought it on a whim finding it reduced to £1 in my local record store after seeing the amazing cover and rushed home where i tucked up in my armchair , in front of the heater, in my fleece pyjamas to begin the critique.
To say I wept tears of unadulterated joy and emotion is an understatement. I collapsed to the floor, unable to control my body, numerous times during the album's musical journey with my head spinning in ecstasy as a result of this magnificent collection of songs.
No album has ever had this effect on me since. I still listen to the album at least 4 times per day, every day and I will do until I am physically or mentally unable to do so anymore.
Simply the best.

Mike and I used to duet together in the nightclubs and cabaret bars over in Benidorm for years. He played the piano and sang the big numbers and I would do the backing vocals and do the comedy. Mostly family friendly but some a wee bit blue! We had a great double act and were really popular with everyone that saw us. One night Mike and I had a few "refreshments" and thought it would be a great idea to swap the act around with me doing singing and Mike doing the gags. Well, my songs went ok but oh dear, when Mike started telling his risque jokes and rude stories I couldn't believe it! Some hardened Benidorm holidaymakers who had heard it all, even blushed, with jaws dropping everywhere I looked!! Eyes wide open in shock at what they'd just heard!
Mike certainly had a naughtier joke book than me! Needless to say, he went back to the music stuff after that legendary night. They're still talking about it to this day!
Oooh that Mike!
Miss you big man.

When I was younger I used to work for a charity rehoming seaside donkeys for the Winter period. It was very difficult to find good homes for all our lovely animals but we used to make do, all except the Winter of 2000. It was brutally cold time and we at the charity were facing a genuine crisis as we had over 25 donkeys still requiring homes. We made a passionate appeal on Look North and Calender but got nowhere with it. We were panicking as the poor things were facing an uncertain future until we took a phone call one grim, rainy December morning. The news was excellent, the Yorkshire vocalist/pianist Mike Terry had organised a huge benefit concert in Tatton Park entitled "Donkey Aid". He arranged everything and along with fellow legendary famous showbiz acts "G&T" , "Curtis Magee", "Dave Knight" and "Morgan Ward" they performed to a sell out crowd of over 1,000 and Mike raised over £40,000 which was used to build a state of the art donkey sanctuary which holds over 30 of our beloved creatures ever single Winter now. Without Mike's support and kindness, these poor donkeys would be cold and lonely each year.
Not any more!! Mike never wanted publicity, he was just so happy to be able to help. A huge thank you to Mike for being a hero to donkeys all over Yorkshire and beyond!
Very sad he's passed away. Beautiful man.

I wrote tv jingles for a living until I was sacked a few years ago but I was offered an enormous cash contract to create an advertising song for the delicious, mouth watering, home casserole poultry accompaniment sauce in a jar "Chicken Tonight".
Well, try as I might I just couldn't get my head in the game and I sat there with my pint of gin desperate for inspiration. Then it hit me.... Boom!
My old mate Mike Terry in Wakefield! The maverick entertainment artiste extraordinaire with a heart of gold! I picked up the phone, contacted my dear old friend and explained my predicament. Within seconds Mike's voice thundered a song freshly created inside his brain down the telephone line.... "I feel like chicken tonight, like chicken tonight..."
It was an almost religious experience hearing that instant classic spilling from Mike's lips. I knew then it would go down in history as the greatest tv jingles ever written...... and it has! With the royalties earned over the years I can afford season tickets at my favourite soccer team "Botswana Meat Comission FC". As a thank you I took Mike over there to see the boys destroy "Police Force XI" 6-0 back in 2011. The crowd knew they had a celebrity present that day and gave Mike a rousing reception and a signed shirt from the team.
Thank you Mike for everything. A diamond of a man....

Mike always shopped at my beachware stall on Blackpool seafront each year. He always told me what he'd been up to and told me his "stories". He used to purchase a new pair of sunglasses, the fancier the better! New swimming trunks and of course, a new pair of flip flops, usually the brightest ones he could find on the stall! He used to give me a nice big tip each time we did business and looking back, "Big Mike" was more than a customer.... He was a friend..
I miss you Mike.

My best ever Mike Terry song is "Let Me Take Care Of You". I just really love this song and I find it helps me to calm down when I get very, very angry. Something about it just takes away my bad thoughts and I thank Mike Terry for doing this song. You have helped me through your music.

My 14 year old cat, Morris went missing and I was deeply upset as he was my constant companion and gave me so much pleasure in the life after my husband, Cuthbert had passed away a few year ago. I spent most of days sat slumped in my garden chair quietly crying trapped in a world of desolate and depressing sadness.
About a week later whilst in the midst of a trance like state of despair sat staring blankly overlooking the grey, dull street I became aware of a large, colossal shape casting a hulking shadow over me. I will never forget slowly looking up and seeing a kind, rotund smiling face in front of me tenderly holding a handkerchief out to me in a non aggressive manner.
"It's ok" said the soft, almost feminine voice. "I'm here to help you my darling..."
He introduced himself as Mike from round the corner from Wharncliffe Road and that he was an animal lover who had heard my sad news and that he was determined to reunite me with my beloved pet.
Mike organised a search party of over 300 strangers who scoured Wakefield for Morris, leaving no stone unturned and no places left unsearched. Outhouses were literally torn down in the quest for Morris.
I will never forget the moment (Tuesday 23rd June 2015 at 2.41pm) that my door bell rang and I opened up to find Mike stood there with my beautiful Morris safely in Mike's arms, sleeping and purring with a look of serenity on his Iittle face. I burst out into tears and so did Mike as we shared this magic monent as he passed Morris to me and I swear Morris smiled at me as he opened his little eyes and saw me again after what had seemed an eternity.
Mike had done it.
He had averted emotional catastrophe and reunited two soulmates (one human - one feline) together again.
To some people this may seem a tiny thing in the scheme of life but to me?
Well, Mike proved that there is still something to celebrate in the fact that genuine kindness and selflessness still exists in this grey and dreary world.
Mike and Morris have both passed on now to a better place but I comfort myself by thinking of them both together happy and content for eternity.
God bless you Mike.

Mr Terry worked as the head chef in my local Chinese banquet restaurant "The Laughing Buddha" here in Dorking, Surrey. Everyone in town used to queue for up to 10 minutes up after work on a Friday outside the restuarant eager to take one of the rundown but comfy seats to enjoy Mike's crispy duck and hoi sin pancakes which were unbelievably tasty. His other speciality were his huge balls of pork cooked in a special honey and sweet chilli sauce which absolutely melted in the mouth. Mike put his own indomitable spin on all the various dishes which he learned to cook from the famous chef Kal Won Tehteh while out in the Far East back in the 1970s while studying for his degree in acupuncture and massage. He took everything in that he was taught and became one of the best cooks of Chinese food that Great Britain has ever produced. He won the "Good Food" magazine "Foreign Food" chef award in 1998 which earned him a large cash award which he gave away in full to Chef Tehteh as a thank you and to show what a selfless and generous man that Mike was. When Mike left the restaurant to continue his music career the general public of Dorking took to the local papers to beg and plead with Mike to stay but, alas, it was not to be but I, like everyone else in Dorking that sampled Mike's meaty Asian delights will never forget this wonderful chef and, above all, wonderful man. Sleep well in Heaven ....

I met Mike in Germany in the 80s. We were touring with our group Boney M at the time and also filming 'Love Brewed In An African Pot' a B movie that didn't do too well. Mike had a bit part after popping in to see us one day on the set. The costumes really suited him. Ill never forget the buckflap incident.

In Indonesia we are very fortunate to have a digital radio channel called "MIKE". This channel serves the many Mike Terry fans and supporters that live in this beautiful and very humid and steamy country. We are fortunate that many of our famous DJ's such as Winky Wiryawan and Putri Una remix a lot of the older Terry tracks into hardcore dance floor filler high energy masterpieces which satisfy their craving for Mike Terry material.
Absoultely brilliant and a tribute to the legendary Mr Terry (Wakefield)

I first met Mike when I worked as a train driver on the Bure Valley Railway in Norfolk. I believe it was the Summer of 2004 when I became aware of a gentleman continuously riding the steam train backwards and forwards constantly from opening to closing 7 days a week. Word passed around amongst the staff who were bewildered that someone could show so much sheer passion for the coal powered locomotive.
It was on the following Sunday that I approached the gregarious and stout chap as he was boarding the train yet again and I struck up a conversation with him regarding his adoration for the railway.
He introduced himself as Mike Terry from Wakefield and that he had a dream to open up his own vintage steam railway in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. He explained he was saving hard to build the finest track in Great Britain and told me that it would cost approximately £65 million to style it just how he dreamed it would be.
He told me that he was an international entertainer and that all his earnings would be put towards this steam dream.
Unfortunately Mike was never able to open his life long ambition but he revisited me countless times afterwards and I allowed him to drive the locomotive for me on many, many occasions while wearing his special shiny train drivers outfit and peaked hat. He loved waving to the tourists and blowing hard on his whistle whilst steaming through the beautiful Norfolk countryside.
I am very proud to have known Mike and to have helped him in his utter love for steam powered railways.

Mike used to cheer me up when I was in the hospital for a few months by volunteering as a reader on the wards. Every Tuesday and Thursday he would be there from 6pm until 8pm always laughing, always joking, always happy. He used to ask me what books I liked and I said "Horrors please Mike". Mike used to go to library for me and get me some right good reads. The one that I had him re-read to me was "Salems Lot" by Stephen King. I loved it but Mike was scared so much by the vampires in the story that I made him a crucifix out of my ice lolly sticks so he would feel safe walking home in dark! He told me that he'd race home as quick as the wind and lock them doors and windows before saying his prayers and going to bed. I used to say "Mike, vampires ain't real mate!" and we'd laugh and joke about it.
Mike was a lovely bloke. I really miss him and like someone else said, it's real nice to hear all these lovely tributes to him. Didn't know he had such a full life. Very nice man.

Michael became a friend of mine when I worked in Debenhams in Glasgow in the early 1990's. I manned the perfume counter and Michael was always popping in to purchase the latest fragrances. His favourite was Kouros, a classic manly scent which Mr Terry drenched himself in daily, the aroma of masculinity permeating from his every pore, turning heads from shoppers and staff alike, people gasping at this wonderful stench wafting around the aisles of the store. Because of Michael's influence, the counter saw sales of Kouros increase by 500% as people couldn't get enough of the stuff. Michael told me that he was approached to become an ambassador for them but he declined it as it would have interfered with his show business escapades. When I smell Kouros even to this day, I still think of Michael's presence and smell and imagine him majestically preening around Debenhams again. Michael Terry - the best smelling man I ever met!

My tribute isn't one of showbusiness connections or funny tales but it is one of sincerity.
I own all of Mike Terry's music that he released but i'm also very proud to say that i also have managed to obtain the rarest of all Mike Terry releases, the ultimate item for any Terry collector "Tribute To Dorothy Squires" on promo only cassette tape.
I had to pay £825.00 for this uber rare item but it is fantastic. Mike sings songs like "The Gypsy" and its honestly amazing.
I am very wistful when i hear this album as i feel it should have been a smash hit but was never released due to an unknown reason only known to Mike and his record company.
Such a shame the general public were never able to hear this unreleased gem.

Mike always flew his kite on the hill behind my house when he was a young man. It was lovely to see his face beaming with pure, unadulterated joy as he giggled and frolicked in the wind with his golden hair flowing freely behind him with not a care in the world. He used to pick wild poppies for me and leave them at my back door as a special gesture. I think he held a flame in his heart for me. Over the years, Mike progressed to becoming a musical star and moved away but i have never forgotten this lovely man. I miss you Mike.

What many people dont realise, is that Mike played a vital part in the creation of J K Rowling's hit Harry Potter series. Whislt on a day trip to Edinborough, Mike happened upon a coffee shop and bumped, literally, into the aspiring writer.

A closely guarded secret, can now be sharer. That Hagrid, from the series, was loosely (very) based upon Mike. The frame and stature of such a man.

Whenever i see any Harry Potter merch i always look fondly an do not see R Coltrane, but Mike in the role of Hagrid

Mike was so very generous and used to provide me with his old clothes when he had finished with them. My wife used to say that I looked real proper grand in it all! Like a modern day Sultan or a Prince. Trousers, shirts, capes, pullover, Mike had the lot. He was such a snazzy dresser and was quite the fashion icon even when he was in his later years. I still wear his monacle and top hat about town now and tell everyone who asks that Mike was, and will always be remembered as a fashion trailblazer!

Mr Terry worked alongside me in a ranch in Wyoming back in the Summer of '81. We were tasked with looking after the horses on the ranch and Mike taught me how to throw the ropes and how to calm down the horses using his semi-magical gifts of bovine communication skills when they were feeling agitated or excited. He was the first "horse whisperer" that I had ever heard of, in fact i heard a rumor that the blockbuster movie "The Horse Whisperer" was loosly based on Mr Terry and his many exploits and adventures on the ranch. Mike was a real cool guy, he always had a good heart and sat around the camp fire at night singing his songs. His favourite was "Hurt". When he left to return to England I presented him with a pair of leather chaps which he told me he would treasure. I told him "No Mike..... you're the treasure here!" And he was!

Mike and i used to collect crisp packets from the 1960's onwards. His prized possession was a bag of "Claws" from the 1970's, a horror based treat which brought much joy to Mike. I offered him over £5 for the empty carrying satchel of salty treats but Mike would never sell it for any price. When i see new designs of crisp packets i always think of Mike. Goodbye Mike.

Many years ago I saw Mike perform a one man tribute show to Dorothy Squires in Port Talbot, Wales. It was an incredible event with Terry the showman on top, top form. All the great tracks were belted out very, very loudly with great gusto and delivered in a glitter drenched manner by the larger than life quintessential showbiz master himself. The crowd loved it and when I met Terry after the show he bought me a few (quite a few as I remember!) beers and we had a magical night discussing his music and our mutual adoration for Dorothy Squires. A great entertainer and great company. Here's to Mike Terry, an absolute legend in our time!

Mr Terry would often sit in the local park feeding the ducks and, of course, his favourites, the pidgeons. He would get quite upset and animated when fellow park goers would label the pidgeons as "rats with wings". In Mike's eyes they were all God's creatures who looked forward to their daily treat of stale Hovis best of both bread, lovingly torn up and dispersed by Mr Terry. I would hear him singing his little ditties to himself on the bench with a happy smile on his face. Bless him, such a genuinely nice man. When i walk through the park and hear the little ducks quack on the lake, i shed a quiet tear....

Mike and I used to investigate the abandoned Clayton Hospital in Wakefield for paranormal happenings. He was a very thorough man and also very brave, never frightened to spend long periods of time in the darkness with only a small torch for company. Mike encountered some very strange occurances at the old Clayton and it was a damn pleasure to spend many nights in his company. Lovely bloke.

I managed to pick up an album of Mike terry called "Clackers" from a music store here in San Diego for $3. The cover tempted me with a lovely image of Mr Terry in a glittery blue ensemble playing a piano. The album itself is wonderful with Mr Terry telling a tale of seeing children playing a game in the street which inspired him to write the album title track "Clackers". Unfortunately, i have discovered he died which is a real shame as i would have enjoyed hearing him play live. Thank you Mr Terry for such a slice of piano perfection.

I first met Mr Terry when he was part of the Dragoon Scots Guard Bagpipe band when we recorded the album "Spirit Of The Glen". I knew Mike had a history, background and pedigree of vocal and piano talents but i never knew that he was a dab hand with the bagpipes too! Mike regaled me with the history of bagpipes, informing me that a sculpture of bagpipes was actually found on a Hittite slab at Euyuk in the Middle East dated to 1000BC! When he let loose on the pipes there was no stopping him. An awesome performance by Mike and i even visited him in Wakefield many years later to hear him create sweet music on "the pipes" for one final time. An amazing talent who is now sadly no longer with us. The wonderful Mike Terry.

Mike worked with me as a roadsweeper when we shared lodgings in Wigan in 1973 when he was star turn at Wigan pier for the summer season. He loved having a few quid on his pocket so never minded doing a cash in hand job on the side to earn extra cash. Never forget the day he persuaded the Grumbleweeds to join us in sweeping around Wigan market! I can't believe how many autographs they signed between them that day. At least 200! That shows just how popular mike was. Great pianist. Lovely singer.

I met Mike in Bude, Cornwell when he was a lobster fisherman in the autumn of 1994. He would often bring me back a tasty and meaty crustacean from the depths which i would roast over a bbq pit on Bude beach after first smothering it in garlic butter. Mike never asked for monetary recompense, he only wanted the sweet lobster claws as a thank you. We used to sit there, by the fire pit and watch the seagulls fly up and over us out towards the horizon whilst listening to the waves break on the shore. Great days, great lobster, great man!

I was a roadie the night that Mike headlined the New Years Eve ball in Camden's Electric Ballroom in the late 80's. A wonderful night energized by a sell out crowd of over 4000 party revellers all eager to hear some top Mike tunes! We didn't disappoint anyone that night as he received rapturous acclaim from the boozed up and happy gathered throng. Many people said afterwards that it was the greatest live show they had ever seen. When he performed "When There's Love In Your Heart", I genuinely thought the roof was going to blow off with all the deafening cheers! I think about you every New Years Eve and have a smile on my face!

Mike served me at "Warners The Tobacconists" numerous times over the course of the mid 1990's. He always had a smile and a funny anectode to share with you and had a encyclopedic knowledge of cigars and their taste. I purchased many various delights from him and would like to let people know what a lovely chap he always was. It has been fascinating reading all of his other careers and achievements on this tribute page. Wonderful stuff! Rest in peace Mike

I used to purchase Mike's homemade elderberry wine from him for £2.50 a bottle. Stuff was like rocket fuel!!! He used to laugh and roar out loud like a Wakefield version of Santa Claus as he watched my face scrunch up in a combination of amazement and shock as the potent mix made it's way down my throat! It helped me sleep like a baby for many years for sure! I don't think Mike made any cash out of his brew but he just liked to see people enjoying themselves. That was Mike, right to the end. I'll toast you up in Heaven tonight Mike!

When Mike was the local MP in my hometown of Cleckheaton he was responsible for the construction of a wild flower meadow and he saved our local wildlife sanctuary from certain closure. On behalf of all nature lovers and all of the many people who have enjoyed these areas of beauty, i thank you implicitly! Goodbye Mike

Mike released a lot of records in the 1970s and beyond. He did lots of concerts that i was lucky enough to see in towns like Skegness and Blackpool. Very good old fashioned singer who did famous songs like "Hurt" and "Feelings". I was very sad to hear that he had died and i want to pass on my condolances to all his friends and family. It is lovely to read all these tributes to him.

Mr Terry's musical collection is very much admired here in Qatar. We have a small but loyal fanclub which regularly meets up to listen to his illustrious work, especially his album "Queen Of Clubs" which we tend to sing along to while making up our own improvised lyrics! Sometimes we are quite naughty in what we make up! Thank you Mike!

Me and Mike worked together at Electronic Arts on the development of the hit game "Need For Speed : Most Wanted" in 2005. Mike was responsible for most of the key elements in the game, notably the ability to drive round wildly at ridiculously fast breakneck speeds to a thunderous soundtrack which included Mike's very own signature hit "Torremolinos" from his 2000 EMI album release "Hurt".
The games success was testament to Mike's ability to create a quite brilliant landscape and gaming experience. Bravo Mike, great stuff.

Mike made pork pies at O Sullivan's butchers in Wakefield for a few years. He made the best jelly ever and his crust had cheese and jalapeno peppers baked in for a luxury treat! The meat was heavenly and melted in the mouth. I was devastated when he left to become an entertainer but happy for him too. No one has ever come close to pork pie perfection as you Mike. Very sad to hear of his death. Rip.

Mike was the first person i knew who mixed weetabix with prunes and yoghurt. When i was made unemployed after the infamous night at the "Three Bees Club" in Bridlington it came in very handy and i lived on this beautiful mixture of wheat, fruit and dairy products very happily for many months until i won a large amount of cash on the euro millions and went back to my diet of pork and lamb products. Thanks Mike!

Me and Michael used to work in McDonald's in Wakefield for a short spell in 2012. I always remember fondly the way he would rummage around at the end of his shift looking for any left over burgers or other food that was due to be thrown away. He would then drive into the town centre and search out the homeless whereupon he would hand out his free feast to the needy and hungry. A modern day saint (with burgers)
Bless you Michael.

When i used to frequent Wakefield library i would often bump into Mike browsing through the world history section. We had many debates regarding Assyrian and Persian political and religious issues and theories. Mike was a great researcher of the Umayyad Caliphate. Believe me, we spent hours, nay, weeks discussing his interests. Sometimes we would take a break and enjoy strawberry pop tarts and banana milkshakes at Betty Flattington's cafe over the road before we began our researching again in earnest.
Mike's beliefs were somewhat controversial at times but he was always great company and i miss him every day. The Wakefield library is a sadder place without his presence. Good bye Mike.

Mikes sandwich stall in Wakefield town park was beautiful. I've never tasted a ham salad cob as tasty as he created. A true gastronomic genius with the mayonnaise and onion croutons for sure. His cans of Fanta were only 20p each too! Cant believe he's passed on to Heaven, horrible news for all his many patrons.

My brother was a HUGE Mike fan. He always used to call me and tell me 'this bloke is brilliant', you need to give it a listen! Thankfully this Christmas he sent me a copy of the hit 2000 release of Hurt on cassette tape. I've had it on in the car every morning on the way to work! How genuinely BRILLIANT.

My first encounter with Mike was in Johannesberg back in 1978 when he performed for the ruling government at a fund raising dinner where he performed a rousing and downright bloody thrilling version of "The Star Spangled Banner" and an emotional rendition of "Cant Help Falling In Love With You" which had the heads of State in floods of tears, bawling like babies. He made such an impact on them that they offered him a residency at the most prestigious venue in town, "The Market Theatre". Mike enjoyed much acclaim in many shows here where he helped bridge cultural gaps and joined both sides of South Africa together with the healing power of his cheeky piano playing. Mike, you will never be forgotten.

Mike very kindly used to make my evening meals and read stories to me after my husband, Bert died in 2009. He never missed an episode of Judge Rinder with me. I will always think highly of him and his shepherds pie was beautiful. He used chilli's to pep up the flavour and paprika for the seasoning. Yum yum.
Goodbye sweet Mike.

I knew Mr Terry from our bike riding club when he lived near Pontefract back in the late 60's. We would spend countless weekends out in the countryside with our binoculars looking at many interesting things which gave us much pleasure. We used to pop in at Nelly's shop before we set off, to purchase copious quantities of boiled sweets and jelly babies which Michael adored. I always remember when i put sneezing powders into a bag of sherbert dibdab's one sunny May afternoon which resulted in a hilarious shenanegan but unfortunately i didnt realise that Michael had a slight asthma issue which had him wheezing for dear life as a result! Luckily for me, he always saw the funny side. That was Michael!

In 1978 I rented a television set from Mike when he worked at Radio Rentals in Wakefield. He displayed amazing customer service and came round to my house to ensure that the television was set up in the correct manner. A jovial chap who warbled and crooned as he got along with his immaculate audio / visual work.
"With that voice you should be a singer old chap!" I said to him, semi joking. The rest is history.
RIP Mike.

I used to always listen to Mike whilst on Holiday in Olu Deniz in Turkey. The boys and girls at Nicholas Park Hotel were obsessed. Mehmet, the bar boy, used to have the CD on repeat. Breakfast. Hurt. Dinner, a tribute to Dorothy squires. Evening meal, a plethora of hit vintage Mike tracks fresh from the record deck. Like a big iPod on shuffle. Which Mike was next! Sad to hear of his death. I found out during ice cream hour which really put me off my Knickerbockerglory. RIP Mike. The music will be loud tonight!

Mike lived near me in a bachelor pad in Benidorm back in the 90's and I remember the parties and laughter that used to eminate from that kitsch condo with glee! It was always the place to be with all the local glitteratzee and luminaries turning up to paint the town red. Non stop music and singing day and night, I can always remember seeing Mike in the mornings up on his balcony, following the night before sipping his tea, recovering before the next soiree began!
Mike, you were one of a kind, young man, and Benidorm misses you! x

when I was on holiday in Cleethorpes I saw mike terry do his show at ballroom there. I jusyt liked all his piano playing and he sung ever so nice songs which I used to listen to in the good old days like "the wine is there" and "the gypsy". he was a big lad and his show was so long but I always wanted to see him again but as im in a home now and have no legs anymore its difficult. my friend, tutu, told me that he is now dead. Mr Terry was a highlight of our many holidays to the resort of Benidorm over a period of many years when my partner Abdul was alive , bless him.
We used to love visiting "Talk Of The Town" nightclub and seeing Mike perform his charismatic, and always, entertaining songs.
A highlight for me was when Abdul, myself and Mike joined in around the old honkytonk piano for a tear-jerking rendition of Abdul's favourite ever song "FEELINGS". The heart warming reaction from the packed audience will always stay with me. Mike took us for a drink after the show and we had the most wonderful evening.
I gather that in his later years he lived in Wakefield, Yorkshire which is ironic as that was the place I had my sweet Abdul cremated.
Mr Mike Terry gave me and Abdul such lovely memories and I still listen to his albums to this day. I salute you Mr Terry, bless you forever.
