Mildred V. C. Butts

On Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, Mrs. Mildred Virginia Charity Butts, of 445 Deer Ridge Road, Spring Grove, Va., entered into eternal rest.

She was the daughter of the late Percy and Ruth W. Charity. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly D. Butts; a brother, Baby Charity; an aunt, Bessie Pettaway; two sisters-in-law, Fannie Hendricks and Queen Donaldson; and a cousin, Floyd C. Pettaway Sr., who was like a brother.

Mildred was educated in the Prince George County School System and was a homemaker.

Over the years, Mildred was a member of the Gravel Hill Baptist Church, Union Baptist Church and United Fellowship Christian Center. She rejoined Abundant Life Christian Church (formerly Gravel Hill) in 2011. Mildred was a quiet person but she raised her voice to tell people about the goodness of God. She loved the Lord with all of her heart.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 39 years, Carol Lee Butts, who stood by her and took care of her in sickness and in health; her son, Kevin Butts (Sandra) of Prince George, Va.; her daughter, Karen Butts of Surry County, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Jearldine Brown of Surry County, Va., and Charlene Graves of Fredericksburg, Va.; four brothers-in-law, James Butts (Vernice) of Wakefield, Va., Odell Butts (Patricia) of Petersburg, Va., Calvin Butts (Patricia) of Wakefield, Va., and Antoine Butts of Wakefield, Va.; seven grandchildren, KaNesha Butts, Alexis Butts, Keyontra Butts, Kentrell Butts, Kavon Butts, Christal Butts and Kenyon Butts.

Funeral service for Mildred Butts, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at the Abundant Life Christian Church, 784 Cabin Point Road, Spring Grove, Va., with Professor Rosa Cassell presiding and Pastor Leon Pettaway, eulogist. Interment to follow at Abundant Life Christian Church cemetery. Family members are asked to assemble at the residence at 10 a.m. on the day of the service. The family may be reached at 757-866-0171.

Public viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at the funeral home.
