SAKIC, Mirko (Mike)
October 28, 1934 – March 31, 2018
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our sweet husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Marija; three daughters Iva (Dino), Irena and Diana; grandchildren and the apples of his eye, Emma and Jon; sister Marija; nephews Ante (Elizabeth) and Jozo (Nadia); brother-in-law Bozo (Mladenka); and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Canada and Croatia. Mirko was born in Studenci, Croatia and immigrated to Vancouver in 1960 where he exemplified an incredible work ethic and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 115 for over 50 years. Mirko was a proud Croatian who loved to tend to his garden, make wine and spend time with friends. His greatest love was his family - we will miss his kind and generous spirit, quick wit and infectious smile. He was truly one of a kind who touched the hearts of many. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 6 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Croatian Catholic Parish, 3105 East 1st Avenue, Vancouver. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park, South Mausoleum, 4000 Imperial St., Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted by the Immaculate Heart of Mary Croatian Church for Mirko's village church Sveti (Saint) Ilija in Studenci, Croatia.

Teta Marija, Iva, Irena and Diana, I am heartbroken to hear of your husband/father's passing. Mirko was such a kind-hearted loving person. There was never a time when I saw him that he wasn't smiling and a kind word to say. I miss my father (Luka Dosen) dearly and even though it has been 11 years since his passing, the heartache never goes away. God bless Mirko's soul as he truly had a gift of compassion for others and was always there to help. I have a lot of fond memories of family interactions over the years. Hug each other close and know that many people love you and your family. Teta Marija, you are the sweetest person. My heart goes out to you and your girls. Please let me know if you need anything.
