Mollie Miles Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 7 to Dec. 9, 2018.
Mollie Miles
March 21,, 1916 - Dec. 4, 2018
A wonderful era has come to an end with the passing of Mollie Miles of Raleigh Hills aged 102! She was the admired matriarch of Mother Miles Boarding house as our family home was affectionately called.
Tom and Mollie Miles built the modern rancher in 1950. It was a home and office for the family engineering business. Mother Miles was the brownie leader, executive office organizer, typist, accountant, tax adviser for the office, fresh bread maker to all, host to international students and dignitaries and mother of four.
Her correspondence to all who came in contact was legendary…the Facebook connector of her day…and all through letters. Our family included "brothers and sisters" from Japan, Mexico, Brazil, New Zealand, UK and Switzerland.
Tom and Mollie were hugely influential to the young over 50 years encouraging us to get out and see the world. Although partially disabled, it did not deter her from traveling well into her 90's. Her positive philosophical spirit was infectious.
We farewell her fondly at a Celebration of Life service at 2 p.m., Thursday Dec. 13, 2018, at Wilhelm Portland Memorial Funeral Home. Reception to follow. Flowers accepted, Donations may be made to her favorite music station, All Classical Portland.

In memory of my dear Granny Miles. You have always inspired me by the delight you had in people and in life and your constant seeking of knowledge, your wisdom. I have always felt your love despite being many many miles away - it arrived in your frequent letters which I now treasure. You are dearly missed. Loving you, your granddaughter Nik.

Dear Mollie Miles
How lucky we were to have had you and Tom in our lives over the years. Your enthusiasm for life was infectious. Nothing was ever impossible.
You introduced Mick and I and our boys to a real American breakfast in the 1980's. Spoilt us with trips around the beautiful country side of Oregon in the Lincoln continental. We have some amazing memories and we Thankyou both.
Our love to family

Mollie was one of the cleverest and most prolific letter writers. Her notes were filled with humor and observations. I'll miss her greatly.
