Morgan A. "Barney" Barnhill

Greenville

Morgan A. "Barney" Barnhill, 91, passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 15, 2016.

He resided in Greenville, SC with his wife of 66 years, Lois Barnhill.

Barney was born in Marion, OH, on November 12, 1924. He graduated from Sandusky High School and attended Bowling Green University before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1943. He spent the next 22 years in the active Air Force during three wars, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He flew in many types of aircraft in Europe and ended his service aboard C-119 and

C-124 aircraft. His many travels took him to bases in Germany, Alaska, Japan, Charleston, Savannah, The Pentagon, Hawaii, and Greenville where he chose to retire with his family who had followed him around the world.

Adult and Boy Scouting had been in his life wherever he was based, and upon his retirement he become a District Executive with the Blue Ridge Council.

For his service to Scouting, he was awarded the Silver Beaver, the highest award to Adult Scouters.

Barney was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason; a volunteer with Meals on Wheels; a life member of the U.S. Powerboat and Sailing Squadron and in 1993 became Commander of the organization; an active member of the Senior Action Center; and a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, SC.

In addition to his wife, Lois, he is survived by a son, Eric Barnhill (Donna); two daughters, Janet Goode (David) and Lori Halabi (Sam); two grandchildren, Dustin Albertson (Brooke) and Colleen Casey. He also leaves many, many good friends as he never met anyone who did not become a friend.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to any of the above-named organizations or to your favorite charity. Barney's favorite flower was the gardenia so plant one in this memory.

The family wishes to thank the Interim Healthcare Hospice for their comfort, support, and love.

Visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Washington Street, Greenville, SC 29601 on Friday, May 20, 2016 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the church parlor. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
