Murray Maye Obituary
Murray Maye, 62, transitioned to paradise on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. His visitation will be held at Bell Funeral Home on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 3:00pm until 9:00pm. His funeral service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 12:00pm at Resurrection Catholic with Father Manuel officiating. Internment will follow at Saint Paul Cemetery in Lowndes County.
Murray is survived by his wife who he spent 35 loving years with, Darlene Maye, his six children: Ava, Lashica, Jina, Tera, Kristopher and Nicholas; his six brothers: Cleo, Micky, Willie, Larry, Wendell and Dwight Maye, and his grandchildren, Jalen Rashad and Aminata Mali. Murray was born in Hayneville, Alabama and became the owner of a successful carpet and floor covering business in Los Angeles, California before relocating back to Montgomery in 1995. He most recently worked as a contract employee for the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed cooking, laughing with friends, traveling and spending time with his large family who he loved dearly and who loved and will always love him back.

Oh Ava..I saw you today..you were crying.I joined in with you.Right now I am speechless..overcome by emotions..the sorrow of you and your great mom.I love and I ubderstand your Story(Stories).Monumental love just holds me in a trance.

I didn't know Mr. Murray and just started watching the "Queen Sugar" drama on OWN this past weekend. I'm a huge fan of Ava's. When I saw the dedication to Mr. Murray at the end of Episode 1, I was compelled, even drawn to research who he was to "Queen Sugar." I somehow felt a connection. Oddly enough, my paternal roots to Alabama begin in Montgomery. Perhaps this why.
I pray that with each passing day, the Creator of the universe continues to blanket with His peace the hearts of all who loved Mr. Murray and that all find strength and comfort in the memories you have made and keep close of this very special man for Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal. God bless you!

I just had an old employee of Murray come into our carpet supply store in Los Angeles. I had not seen him for 10-15 years. I asked of Murray and his brothers, They would always be joking around while they loaded supplies for their daily work, such good people. So decided to look him up on the web, came across this sad news. Murray was very well known to us, such a kind and giving person. Our deepest condolences to all his family. He will be dearly missed.

I watched the new show on OWN, Queen Sugar, and I noticed in the credits that the first episode was in memory of Murray. How beautiful! This lets me know that his memories will live on as they live within the Lawson Family.

It had not been but a few weeks ago that Gary had a nice heart to heart conversation, as he always had kept in contact with his cousins. Murray was a groomsman in our wedding over 32 years ago. He will be truly missed. Our brother is called home Romans 8:28.

A True Friend
I met Murray in 1995 when he returned home to Alabama from California. Murray and I met while installing floor covering. We have been friends every since. I will miss my friend. Murray was like an older brother. Murray had a gentle, kind, caring and giving spirit. He was a blessing to many and will be missed. I say to the Maye Family let us grieve, but for a short time, then we should rejoice for God sending Murray to be in our lives for a season. Our joys and memories will live on.

The work family at Wetumpka Post Office, especially the clerks, will truly miss Murray. We always said he was the best driver we have ever had. He was truly a big help to us. Blessings to him and his family. We not only lost a driver but a genuine friend. He was truly a great man.

My memories of Murray Maye were many years ago when I had my 1st plane ride and he came to pick my dad & myself up in his sports car with the top down. I thought I were big time then. I will always remember his smile every time I saw him.
