In Loving Memory of Nadir Silva Sales

(May 23, 1942 - July 28, 2025)

Nadir Silva Sales (Nadir Martins da Silva), a woman of unwavering grace, passed away peacefully at her home in Milford, Connecticut on Sunday, July 27th, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 83.

Born on May 23, 1942, in Mantena, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Nadir was the eldest of seven siblings, a role she carried with pride and purpose. She was a guiding light and a maternal figure not only to her younger brothers and sisters, but to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her quiet strength, kind heart, and deep compassion became the foundation of her family's story, one built on faith, resilience, and unconditional love.

Nadir was the cherished wife of Tietre Sales Fonseca and the devoted mother of three children: Márcio Sales and wife Cristina, whom she loved like a daughter, of Milford; Rose Subtil and husband Adauri, whom she loved like a son, of Milford; and Jane Parrott and husband Dean, whom she loved like a son, of Winsted, CT. She was also a second mother to her niece, Priscila Moderno, whom she lovingly helped raise as a daughter.

Her greatest joy was her family. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Jason and Josh Sales; Jennifer Turner and husband Steven; Pamela, Ryan and wife Juliann Subtil; Derek, Corey, Shawn, and Dana Parrott. Her legacy continues through her great-grandson, Asher Turner, who brought her endless joy.

She is reunited in heaven with her parents, Sebastiana Pereira da Silva and Geraldino Martins da Silva, and her beloved brother Cecy Martins da Silva. Left to honor her memory are her siblings: Altamiro da Silva, Euza Sena, Altair da Silva, Penha Almeida, and Marcos da Silva, who all revered her with the love and respect reserved for a mother.

Nadir was a nurturer, a listener, a constant presence. Her home was a refuge, a place where laughter echoed through the kitchen on Sunday afternoons, where the aromas of her delicious cooking lingered in the air, and where the warmth of her smile made everything feel like it would be okay. She was happiest surrounded by her family, with her hands busy knitting baby clothes or stirring a pot, and the old sounds of Brazilian country music or a Roberto Carlos song playing in the background. She cherished her home filled with food, drink, love, and laughter.

Nadir's life was one of quiet strength, unwavering love, and deep-rooted values. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, compassion, and family unity.

She was more than a mother, wife, or grandmother, she was a steady refuge, a warm hug, a voice of wisdom, and a heart that never wavered. Her home held a mighty spirit. Her laughter, her cooking, her strength, and her love will live on in the stories we tell, the traditions we keep, and the way we continue to love one another.

She was, and always will be, our saint on Earth.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 1st at 10:30 AM at Saint Raphael's Parish, 501 Naugatuck Avenue, Milford, CT.

Following the service, a private reception for family and close friends will take place at Riverview Bistro, 946 Ferry Boulevard, Stratford, CT.
