Nancy Craig Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 19, 2023.
Nancy A. Craig (Woods) was born on March 20, 1953 in Beverly, and died peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2023 in Salem.

Nancy grew up in Beverly and was the oldest of five sisters. As a young girl, she first saw The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show on February 9, 1964 and was hooked. She then saw them in concert at Suffolk Downs in Boston on August 18, 1966 and fought her way through the crowd to the front row. She became a lifelong die hard fan of The Beatles, and the death of John Lennon affected her deeply and profoundly.

After separation from her first husband, Nancy worked hard as a single mother to raise her young children. She also met Richard Craig in Beverly who she would later marry. She worked at Flair Cleaners in Beverly for many years and brought life and laughter to her workplace and was loved by many of the customers. When she was no longer working, she would often spend hours doing her grocery shopping simply because she would strike up conversations with complete strangers.

She loved to read, and her favorite author was Dean Koontz. She was also a naturally gifted writer and enjoyed writing poetry for people or for herself. Getting her first computer and eventually social media opened more of the world for her. She made many friends and acquaintances online and would usually have hundreds of browser tabs open, researching and exploring anything she was interested in. Nancy had a rich inner world with a mind that thirsted for exploration, knowledge, and understanding.

Nancy loved animals. She was a generous, gentle soul who had tremendous compassion and acceptance of all beings and had high emotional intelligence. She was always willing to listen without judgment and her natural wisdom and guidance was sought out by friends and relatives throughout the years. She had an ability to connect deeply with people and put people at ease with her presence.

She was extremely proud of and loved her three sons beyond words, and their successes and ability to navigate their lives and the world is largely due to her influence on them.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Louis Woods, his wife Joanne Woods, her mother, Rosaline Woods, her sister, Brenda Modugno, and her brother-in-law, Anthony Familiari. She is survived by her partner of over 40 years, Richard Craig of Salem, MA, with whom she shared a deep love and connection. Her legacy lives on through her three devoted sons, Dana, Matthew, and Jamey Correia. Dana and Jamey reside in Winter Garden, Florida, and Matthew resides in Rollinsford, NH. Additionally, Nancy is survived by her sister, Denise Familiari, sister Susan and her husband, James McGinnity, and sister Luanne and her husband, Paul O'Brien, all of Beverly.

This is such a beautiful tribute of a life lost much too soon. I did not know Nancy well; however, the love she shared with her sisters was apparent.
May she rest well, until we see her again.
