Nancy Sorensen Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Dec. 15, 2009.

SORENSEN Nancy Marie (Elworthy) Our beloved Nancy passed away quietly on December 11, 2009 at Eagle Ridge Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Nancy was born in Montreal, March 9, 1963, and moved with her family to Vancouver in 1970. Nancy is survived by her treasured daughter Roisin and her loving husband Ken as well as her mother Joan (Bob) and father Henning (Betty), her sisters Tove and Susan (Rob) and many relatives in Denmark, Ireland and Quebec. Nancy was a loving and generous woman who always had a ready smile and lived her life to the fullest. She loved travel as well as the creativity and expression of music and theater, in which she took part in several performances. A celebration of Nancy's life will take place Friday, December 18th at the Scandinavian Centre, 6540 Thomas Street, Burnaby from 1-3 pm. Our thanks to her many friends for their loving and never ending support. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Nancy's name to the City of Coquitlam Animal Shelter.

My thoughts have been with you while in England. Nancy touched my heart in a very special way and has inspired me with her courage and determination to fight her disease.

I can only see a picture in my mind of many years ago....
Though it was a smiling photo, it saddens me to hear of this,

I am so sorry to hear about Nancy's passing. She was my sister for a time, and a friend. I hadn't seen her for years, and had lost touch. I am glad she had a good life and had many people who loved her, I wish I could have said goodbye.

I was a little girl when I met Nancy - she asked me over to play one day and I don't think I left for two years. Nancy was the best friend a young girl could ask for. She was kind and trustworthy, you knew you were never going to be blindsided by anything hurtful, your secrets were never going to be disclosed to others, and of course, she was always full of ideas of really fun stuff to do. I've stayed connected to Nancy on some level ever since. Like everyone who knew her my admiration for Nancy has grown over the years as I have seen her take on countless struggles with a determination to be positive, live her life to the fullest, and spend as much time as possible with her family. I feel fortunate to have been part of her life and will miss her for the rest of mine. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Nancy and I went to Stride Elementary School together in grade 5 & 6 we became best friends. She had a heart of gold and a smile that would make you smile. I will always remember the great times we had together growing up, and at Nancy's fortieth birthday party. She will be dearly missed, and always loved.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
