Dear Brian, David, Michael and Family,

We are very sad to learn of Nancy's untimely death. We remember her well from our early days at Springhill where the two Davids first got to know one another. For well over thirty years, we valued her friendship. Often remembered her in our prayers after Gene and I retired to Vancouver. We would have enjoyed seeing her more often, but never forgot her or Brian and the wonderful times we had as our boys were growing up. We were delighted when she found her church home at Grace Lutheran in Edmonton. We will miss her grace and humour.
Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He give us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1Corinthians 15:55-58. Brian, David, Michael, our thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve the loss of a loving and supportive wife, a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother.
Love,
Gene & Sandy Lechelt

Dear Brian and family,
I just received word today of Nancy's passing and I offer my deepest sympathies. I feel blessed for having known Nancy and particularly enjoyed her lively spirit, laughter, and being a cheer-mate with her at past Stone Angel hockey games.
Keeping you in thought and prayer during these times.

Brian and family,
I had the honour of knowing Nancy through our shared love of golf at the Windermere. We were part of a group called the Thursday/Friday Ladies, about 12 of us, until I moved to Toronto in 2004. Nancy was so much fun. She had such a vibrant mind, quick wit, said what she felt, was a little bossy and we loved her for it. We always talked about books and I carried a list of her favourites in my wallet for years. She introduced me to "The Queen and I" by Sue Townsend - I always think of Nancy when I recommend it to others. I know she was very proud of her sons and their academic achievements and I am so happy she saw them married and enjoyed having a grandson.
Sincerely, Bonnie Haggis

To the Sykes family;
I am so dreadfully sorry for the passing of a terrific mother and wife.
I remember Nancy as such a warm and vivacious person. She opened her house and heart to all of Brian's graduate students, postdocs and techs. She was extra loving to those expectant mothers in Brian's lab, crocheting beautiful blankets for each baby as a shower gift. My children still have those blankets (wrapped around teddy bears now), and we still cherish them.

Brian, David and Michael: You will be in our prayers as you go through this devastating time.

Much love to you all,
Patricia (Campbell), Rolland, Adrian and Alex Riives

So sorry to hear the passing of Nancy. We only knew her for 2 years.
She was the last team we curled against this year and what a joy to have around, she was quite the card.
She'll be greatly missed.

To her family, in memory of Nancy,

My husband and I are sorry at Nancy's too early departure. I will always remember summers as a child spent with cousin Nancy and her family. We had such fun! While her loss brings grief, love binds beyond death. Take heart.

Our deepest condolences to the family. May God comfort you at this time.
