GREENSBORO — Nettie Rene Williams Vaughan, 82, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Maple Grove Health & Rehabilitation.
Nettie Rene was born on October 7, 1928 in Fayetteville to the late Viola Williams Gilmore and the late Albert Johnson. As a child, Nettie moved with her beloved Uncle George Williams to New York. There she attended George Washington High School and P.S.143. Nettie married her true love Edward Thomas Vaughan, Sr. in October 1945. This union was blessed with a family of eight children, 24 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. Nettie loved caring for people and had a lengthy career as a nurse's assistant at Albert Einstein Hospital in New York as well as several nursing facilities in Guilford County; ending her career at the Adult Center for Enrichment in Greensboro where she eventually became a client.
On June 23, 1961 she dedicated her life as a servant of Jehovah God sharing Bible truths of His promises and hopes of a better future for all mankind.
In addition to her parents, Nettie Rene was preceded in death by her stepfather, Willie Gilmore, Sr., brother, the late Stanley Gilmore (Helen), and sister, the late Carrie Shaw of Raeford.
She leaves her love and fond memories to her eight children, Virita Harper (Howard) of Greensboro, Alexander Vaughn, Sr. (Frankie) of Winston-Salem, Valorie Jarrell (Vincent) of Greensboro, Margaret R. Vaughan-Goode (Melvin) of McLeansville, Edward T. Vaughan, Jr. of Greensboro, Robert Vaughan Sr. of Salisbury, Michele Chavis (Bernard) of Greensboro, and Michael Vaughan of Greensboro.
She also leaves her love and fond memories to her sisters and brothers Dorothy Raeford (Fred) of Fayetteville, Ella Reece McKelvin (Thurman) of Fayetteville, Gloria Gilmore of Fayetteville, Willie Gilmore, Jr. (Elsie) of Fayetteville, George Gilmore (Sera) of Hope Mills, John Gilmore (Nam Yi) of San Bernadino, CA, Calvin Gilmore (Bergetta) of Fayetteville, Eugene Johnson (Sonja) of Maryland, Curtis Johnson (Kathleen) of New Jersey, and brother in law Elwood Shaw of Raeford.
Finally, her cherished love and memories are left to her grandchildren: Kecia Metoya, Adina Harper, Terea Harper, Stuart Vaughn, Tamika Shrewsbury, Tia Vaughn, Alexander Vaughn, Jr., Miranda Vaughn, Millicent Vaughn, Damon Vaughan, Shawntee Jarrell, Lavar Jarrell, Austin Vaughan, Paige Vaughan, Hunter Vaughan, Daniel Vaughan, Destiny Vaughan, Angelica Vaughan, Robert Vaughan, Jr., Vanessa Patterson, Christopher Patterson, Romante Vaughan, Bria Graves and 14 great grandchildren along with a myriad of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, January 19 and 20 at Woodard Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Friday, January 21 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Lakeview Memorial Park at 2 p.m. Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, January 22 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2615 Liberty Rd., Greensboro, NC.

Sister Vaughn had such a nice kind personality. I remember her strong will to serve Jehovah despite her health when we first met. The love she expressed for her family is something I will always remember.
