Noah Spivey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 2, 2014.
Noah David Spivey, a 17 year old from Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, March 22, 2014. Noah had endured a four-year battle with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, to which he eventually succumbed. Although cancer took his body, the Lord Jesus carried his soul into Heaven. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 4th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC. A service will be held on Saturday, April 5th at 10:30 a.m. at Duke University Chapel located at 401 Chapel Dr., Durham, NC 27708. Noah was born in Roussillon, France on November 7th, 1996 to John and Christine Spivey. After coming to the United States shortly after his birth, Noah lived in Texas and then in Northern Virginia. Noah came to the Raleigh area in September 2005 and became active in Cub Scouts and eventually Boy Scouts. As Noah grew, he became interested in music and eventually played trumpet with the Leesville Road High School Symphonic Band. Noah had a passion for helping others in need, especially other pediatric cancer patients. He liked to participate in fund raising events for charitable organizations like St. Baldrick's. Shortly before his passing, Noah was awarded the rank of Life Scout, and was given the prestigious Heart of An Eagle Award by the Boy Scouts of America. Noah also received the Boy Scouts Silver Wolf award as well. Noah's life was characterized by a grace that only came through his relationship with Jesus Christ. Despite the great ordeal of his disease and treatment, Noah showed 'amazing' strength and courage in the midst of it. Noah's brave battle and steadfast faith has become a model to many who knew him. Anyone who knew Noah would never see bitterness or anger in his heart even despite his trial. Noah cherished every moment with his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, John and Christine Spivey, as well as his three siblings, Timothy, Brooke, and Lisa. He is also survived by his grandparents, David Spivey of Houston; Jane Semetko of Lufkin; Bernard and Helene Jouve of Roussillon, France; great-grandparents, Dan and Josie Spivey of Lufkin; Megan and Jeff Walker of Lufkin; Murphy Semetko of Lufkin; and numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins. The Family would like to thank the many people at Duke Children's hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the Levine Cancer Institute who helped him during his battle. The Family would also like to thank the many friends in the community and members of scout troop 364 who helped Noah complete his Eagle Project. The Spiveys want to thank Make-A-Wish of Eastern North Carolina for making Noah's dream trip to Australia possible. Thanks should also be given to the many friends, neighbors, church members, and prayer partners for their care and support over the years. Memorial donations can be made to 'The Noah D. Spivey Heart of the Eagle Fund'. Checks must be made payable to the 'Occoneechee Council' and mailed to 3231 Atlantic Ave. Raleigh, NC 27614. Be sure to list in the remittance, 'The Noah D. Spivey Heart of the Eagle Fund.' Payments can also be made online at the Occoneechee Council Website: http://www.ocscouts.org/noah-spivey-fund/. The first time I was told of his battle with cancer my heart immediately went out to Noah without having known him. I had a burden for Noah that kept me praying for him through it all. Little did I know I would learn from Noah firsthand how best to deal with tragedy in one's life. He always appeared to have such a positive attitude and a smile. When I met him for the first time in church I was overwhelmed with inspiration "this kid is special". After viewing the many pictures I can see why. My prayers continue for John, Christine and Noah's Sisters Brooke, Lisa and brother Timmy.

We are so thankful that God brought your family into our lives. We have been so blessed by getting to spend time with you, praying through tough times together, and seeing the amazing witness and faith that Noah and all of you have been to everyone around you, and how God took your faith and mutiplied it to spread to thousands of others. We have had the privelege of witnessing a true modern day miracle through Noah's life and trials. We will truly miss Noah, but will ever remember his joy, strength, determination, and his never ceasing faith and hope. Noah truly believed that his trials were God's blessings in disguise and that God would use them for His glory. He has and will continue to. We can imagnie Noah's joy as he runs into God's arms and we know that God has said to him, "Well done thou good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your master." We will continue to thank God for your precious friendship and pray that God continue to comfort you all.

John & Christine:
How you must both be aching and rejoicing simultaneously. You stewarded well a great treasure while he was on earth, and the loss of Noah will haunt you all your days. At the same time, you KNOW that he has been released from his failed earthsuit. All of our earthsuits fail eventually. Few of us get to be loved and prayed for as greatly as Noah, and fewer of us will be such a testimony to a life of faith as great as his. The seeds he has planted across America and Australia will bear great fruit I am certain. I deeply regret that I will miss his memorial celebration due to travels out of state.

Thank you Spivey family for sharing your son, your life and your faith with the world.

Yours in Christ,
Jim Anthony
