Noreen Plant Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 27, 2018.
Noreen Ann Plant (nee Provost) 1945 - 2018 In a room filled with love and holy anticipation Noreen Plant took her final breath. "I overcame, I won the battle." These were Noreen's final words. The cancer may have conquered her body but not her spirit. Noreen Ann Plant passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 25th, 2018 at the age of 72. Noreen had a dedicated career at Canada Post for 33 years. She dedicated her life to everyone around her, teaching children in the ideals and the practices of their faith. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League, a hockey mom and perhaps famous for providing a taxi-like service to all in need. Noreen was a wonderful wife to Gary her husband. Loving mother to A.J. (Chantal), Maynard (Kanae), Linette (Mike Wyshynski), Rev.Fr. Gerard, Blaise (Kana) and Erin. Cherished grandmother to Mackinleigh, Makiya, Francis, Noah, Helenna, Trinity, Elisha, Emillia, Nia, Quinn, and Valentine. She will also be missed by her siblings Albert (Pauline), Eileen, Frances Riou (Bob), Bernadette and Jimmy (Brenda); her many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and of course her dog Shiloh, all whom loved her dearly and will never forget her caring, generous and joyful spirit. She will remain in our hearts forever. Funeral Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Church in Ottawa on Tuesday, January 30th, 2018 at 11 a.m. in lieu of flowers, please donate to The Sisters of the Queenship of Mary Community. Dear Erin, BJ, Gerard, Linette, Maynard and A.J.

Many, many years ago, your Mom told me that her intention was to become a nun. However, when she realized that this would mean that her parents would have no grandchildren, she changed her plans. Somehow Gary came into the picture. And he certainly did his part!

Back in the days when your Mom was working full time at home, Christmas would be approaching. She was able to pick up a couple of temporary jobs and work 24 hours a day! She had her goals: one year I believe Maynard was out west and she wanted to get him a watch for Christmas. When I would ask how things were going, she would always enthusiastically reply with a huge smile on her face. Years ago my hubby and I were volunteering with the kids at Assumption. Come Christmas Eve, Louie would be working with the kids to sing during the Mass, while I would be responsible for the manger scene: yes, we are talking about real, live kids here. One year I found myself short a couple of kids. No problem. One phone call and there were Erin and BJ all ready to play their parts: no training required! At Assumption the church was always beautifully decorated for Christmas: Noreen and Erin - what a combination! To date I have never met anyone so enthusiastic about fasting during Lent. I am sure your mother found it exhilarating. When I would ask Noreen how the family was doing, I never got a : Fine, thank you. It was always great! Her face would light up and Noreen would begin detailing what each of you were up to. From what I recall, there was never a dull moment, no matter what part of the world you were in. One summer vacation, many years ago, driving out west, the decision was made to go the long way since the route would go all the way through Canada. Many hours later they encountered a major problem: the road was closed because of some sort of bridge problem, I believe. This resulted in an increase of many hours of travel time since they had to return and then take the route through the US. Only someone like Noreen could talk about this as an adventure! To Noreen it was like every day on this planet was a blessing.

And, undoubtedly, you were all a blessing to her.

Dear Gary and family and my cousins, deepest sympathies on Noreen's passing. I remember Noreen teaching my how to sink a basketball at St. Mary's hall, helping her serve early breakfast at retreats and her smile! Alec and I were very fortunate to visit Noreen and Gary last fall in Edmonton. She had great faith and had no fear of death...heaven is better with Noreen there! She will be missed by all.
