Norma J. Shearer, 82, of Greeley, died December 28, 2010 at Grace Pointe in Greeley. She was born November 16, 1928 in Smith Center, KS to Frederick George and Mary Josephine (Allen) Tuxhorn. She graduated from Greeley High School in 1946 and married Harold Asmus on February 8, 1948 in Greeley. She later married Merrill Shearer on May 31, 1969 in Estes Park and he died on December 25, 2010. She lived in the Greeley area, moving to Ft. Collins from 1956-69 and then back to Greeley. Mrs. Shearer was a homemaker most of her life before working at the UNC library for 15 years, retiring in 1985. She also sold Avon when her children were younger. She enjoyed bowling, traveling throughout the West in the RV with Merrill, loved her dog, Mitzi, as well as music and dancing. She was an avid book reader, collected rocks on their travels and enjoyed playing cards. Survivors include her sons Paul (Alice) Asmus of Kalamazoo, MI and Don Asmus of Denver, stepson Steven (Sandy) Shearer of Cody, WY, stepdaughters Cherryl (Joe) Swank of Greeley and Colleen (Darwin) Ruth of Cody, WY, sister Donna Nadine Hart, 9 stepgrandchildren and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Merrill. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Allnutt, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO 80631.
