ZAGERMAN, Norman September 19, 1929 - June 2, 2018Passed away peacefully at home with his devoted family by his side after a short illness. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife Carole, his children Mark, Joel (Lisa), Laurie Arron (Bob), and Andrea Arron (Bruce), his grandchildren Brinkley (Mike) and Misha and great-grandchildren Emerson and Leo. Norman is survived by his brother Herbert (Corinne) and his sisters Shirley Cohen and Ruth Shacter (Manuel). He was predeceased by his brother Joel, his parents Morris and Mildred, his first wife Valerie and brother in-law Al. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews and many friends. Norman was a pillar of the Jewish and Ottawa communities. He was the B'nai Brith Man of the Year and a recipient of the Gilbert Greenberg Distinguished Leadership Award. He was one of the founders of the Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation and president of the Jewish Community Council of Ottawa, formerly the Ottawa Va'ad Ha'ir. To many he was affectionately referred to as Ottawa's ""Va'adfather."" Norman was an active fundraiser and philanthropist for many community causes, including the Ottawa General Hospital, Carleton University, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation Maplesoft Centre. Norman Zagerman was a respected role model and will be dearly missed. The family is profoundly grateful to Dr. Louis Coulombe, Carlos Hernandez and Rosa Silva for their devoted care. The funeral will be at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue, 2 p.m., Monday, June 4. Shiva will be at the family home Monday 7-9 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday 2-4 and 7-9.
