NEW BEDFORD -- Ellen C. (Dexter) Hansen, age 88 years, of New Bedford, died Sunday, January 7, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late H. Morgan Hansen.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Agnes A. (Braley) Dexter, a graduate of N.B. Vocational School and a lifelong area resident.
A member of Grace Episcopal Church, she was active with the Episcopal Church Women. Ellen was a faithful worker at Market Ministries Soup Kitchen for twenty years, a member of the Agawam Chapter Order of Eastern Star #101, the Saturday Club, the AARP, the Ivy Circle and the Garment Workers Association and Friends.
Ellen is survived by her daughter, Sandi Rose and her husband Gary of Bellevue, Washington; her grandchildren, Kristin Nash and her husband Brian, Jeffrey Rose and his wife Nikki and Kari Rose; and her great-grandchildren, Abby, Casey and Thomas.
Her funeral will take place on Friday January 12th at 1 P.M. in Grace Episcopal Church, County and School Streets, New Bedford, followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-6 P.M. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in her name to the memorial fund of her church at 133 School St., New Bedford, MA 02740. www.wilsonchapel.net.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Ellen's passing. Heaven is richer because of her. She was one of my favorite Sunday School teachers. She will certainly be missed. Before I left New Bedford, she told me "I would always be her Betsy." I love you, Ellen Hansen.
