Odessa Strickland Atwood, 87, of Nacogdoches passed away May 21, 2006. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel with the Rev. Paul Sevar officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery. She was born December 9, 1918, in Shelby County. She is survived by four daughters, Carolyn L. Sims and husband, Billy, of Nacogdoches, Alta "Toni" Baxter and husband, J.W., of Nacogdoches, Barbara Burleson and husband, Jessie, of Chireno and Danita Tucker of Nacogdoches; step-son, Freddie Atwood of Nacogdoches; granddaughters, Melanie Richmond, Sherry Sims, Jennifer Mourtada and Anita Howard; grandsons, John Bradley Baxter, Jason Baxter, Jeffery Baxter, Trey Tucker, Arrie Tucker, Samuel Keith Bailey, Calvin Burleson and Dody Howard; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Buford Strickland, the father of her four daughters and her second husband of 10 years, Arthur Atwood. Her grandsons will be pallbearers.
