Olen A. Bielski Jr.

Olen A. Bielski, Jr., D.C., 84, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center. Olen, a lifelong Chicopee resident, was born on February 8, 1930, son of the late Olen A. and Emilia (Czelusniak) Bielski, Sr. A graduate of Chicopee High School, Class of 1947, Olen continued his education at American International College, and in 1951 earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. In 1955 he graduated, with distinction, from the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, IL with a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine Degree. He was a member of the first class of chiropractors to be licensed in Massachusetts. From 1958 to 1993 Olen held many local education positions including instructor and Science Department Chair at Chicopee Comprehensive High School and lecturer and professor at Elms College, Hampden College of Pharmacy and Holyoke Community College. Olen was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane B. (Nowak) Bielski on March 14, 2014 and is survived by his loving children, Lydia Bielski Magill of Waltham and Olen A. Bielski, III, of Chicopee and South Hadley. Olen also leaves four wonderful and talented grandchildren: Christine Emilia Magill, Olen A. (Alex) Bielski, IV, Olivia Donnellan Bielski and Sophia Grace Bielski. He will be missed by his treasured son-in-law, David G. Magill, his first cousin Marilyn C. Hurst, Karen Jasinski, his special four legged pal Buster and others. A communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop & Martyr, Olen will long be remembered as a tireless volunteer, officer, and member of many organizations and philanthropies including the Boy Scouts of America, where he was an Eagle Scout and Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow, a four-term Ward Two Chicopee School Committee Representative, twenty-year trustee of the former Chicopee Municipal Home, twenty-five year member of the Chicopee Kiwanis Club and an over fifty year board member, past President, Vice-President and Treasurer of the Chicopee Visiting Nurse Association. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial for Olen on Saturday at 10AM in the chapel of Elms College, 291 Springfield St., Chicopee. Burial at a later date will be at the convenience of the family in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-8PM at Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee.
