OSIRIS FERNANDEZ, 66, of Houston died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002 of a heart attack while he slept peacefully at his home. Mr. Fernandez was born in Santiago, Cuba and was the third oldest of eight children. The family moved to Havana soon after the birth. While in Cuba he worked as a sugar cane cutter and a chef of one of the American restaurants. He left Cuba in 1961 to Madrid, Spain. While in Spain he continued to practice his skills adding more Spanish influence to his cooking. He eventually moved to Boston, Mass. where he met and fell in love with his wife, Rosalinda Rojas. The family moved down to Houston in 1982 and has lived here ever since. Mr. Fernandez is survived by his wife; his daughters, Viviana, Icess, and Leslie; and his son, Enrique. He is preceded in death by his mother Nena; his sister Martha; and brothers, Orlando and Pedro. Services for Mr. Fernandez will be held at 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. today at Howard Glendale Funeral Home, 1015 Federal Rd.
