Owen KENNEDY Obituary

Published by Nanaimo Daily News and Harbour City Star from Jul. 30 to Aug. 1, 2013.
KENNEDY - Owen David On July 17, 2013 Owen Kennedy passed away as a result of a massive coronary suffered two days earlier at his home in Berwick by the Lake. He is predeceased by his wife Betty Kennedy and youngest son Bruce. Owen leaves behind three surviving children: David, Robert and Deirdre Kennedy. also he leaves five grandchildren: Christine, Owen, Michelle, Emily and Scott Kennedy. The family would like to thank the people at Berwick for their professional, courteous and helpful response in our time of need. We'd also like to thank the kind doctors, nurses and staff at Nanaimo General Hospital, especially those involved in the Trauma Ward and those working the Palliative Care Unit. When it became obvious Dad would not make it, these people offered comfort to both our father and us. these, the people at First Memorial Funeral Services, Krog and Company and Marjorie Boggis, all these have helped guide us along the red tape and it is sincerely appreciated. There have been many others and except tor three there are too many to name. The three are: Johanne Laliberte, friend and family, thank you so much for being there: Dr. Derek Poteryko, Dad's physician. Your comfort and reassurance sustained us: and Irene Bomhof, close friend of dad's. you reminded the family of just how much our father touched the lives of others. It is because of his involvement with all those around him we extend an open invitation to celebrate the life of Owen Kennedy. The service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, on Saturday August 3, 2013 from 10:00am to noon. Owen served his country in both WWII and the Korean conflict. Dad divided time between the army, navy and air force. Later he worked for Fisheries and Oceans as a marine biologist for a number of years. He served his community as district representative for Cedar and later as alderman for the City of Nanaimo. His later years have been filled with countless causes. A loving father who led by example, Owen died still doing what he loved, leading and helping people; he was 86. First Memorial Nanaimo 250-754-8333

I am so sorry that I was unable to attend Owen's service. He was a good and decent man and I have many fond memories of times together. If any member of the family wishes to give me an address, I'd be delighted to offer a more detailed comment on the kind of man Owen was and why he was held in affection and esteem by many people. My e-mail is [email protected]

Please accept my condolence in the loss of your Father. My late husband Don worked with him at POG, and we visited many times with your Mother and Dad when you were little children. My thought and prayers are with you.

Uncle Owen was quite a man...one in a million...who would do and accomplish what he did!! He never gave up but kept going and blessed many on his travels. My thoughts and prayers are with his children and grand-children.

Uncle Owen was well loved and I know you'll miss your Dad so much. He was a wonderful uncle with so many stories...he was a loving brother to our mom, your Aunt Ruth...now they are together once again...as he is with your mom...probably playing golf. My thoughts and prayers are with you all...

So sorry to hear of your loss. Owen had a heart of gold, and always had a great story to tell. I last ran into Owen as he was getting ready to head back to New Zealand for a visit, and we compared traveling stories concerning the "Land of the Long White Cloud"
A true friend to all!
