Patricia J. Carnevale

Patricia Carnevale, 84, passed away on February 15, 2018, surrounded by her family and devoted care companion. A resident of Oradell for over 50 years, Pat was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend and colleague, known for her intelligence, wit and impeccable sense of humor. Born in Kansas, Pat attended Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois, earning a bachelor’s of arts degree. She briefly returned to Kansas to teach high school, before marrying Tony Carnevale, her loving husband of 55 years, and settling in Oradell to raise five children. An avid reader and loyal patron of the Oradell library, Pat was never without a book. She loved her close-knit community and was an active volunteer in the Oradell and River Dell PTAs, the Oradell Swim Club, and even served with Tony as a Grand Marshal in the Oradell Fourth of July Parade. Pat was also a longtime parishioner and lector at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Oradell. She eventually resumed her teaching career as a much-admired 7th Grade English teacher at the Emil A. Cavallini Middle School in Upper Saddle River, where she also earned recognition as the literary magazine advisor. Pat was blessed with the devotion and support of Tony, who passed away in 2011. She was the much-loved mother of Ted Carnevale and his fiancée, Barbara Jean; Diana Fischer and her husband Bill; Stephen Carnevale and his wife Mary; Antonia Carnevale and her husband Eric Schrode; and the late Joseph Carnevale. Cherished grandmother of Joseph and his wife Samantha, Kathleen, Patricia, Anthony, Thomas and his wife Amanda, Stephanie, Brenna, Robert, Chelsea, Maeve and Vhari; and great-grandmother of Theo. Dear sister of Tom, Betty, Helen and Bill. On Tuesday, February 20th, a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church at 11:30 am (all are requested to meet at church). Internment following at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Visiting will be Sunday, February 18th, 2-6 pm at the William G. Basralian Funeral Home, 559 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Oradell Library, 375 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell, NJ 07649.
