Patricia Savage Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 22, 2024.
Patricia M. Savage (née Mangold), affectionately known as Patsy, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024, in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, at the age of 88. Born in Racine, WI, on May 26, 1936, Patricia's early years were marked by resilience after moving to Los Angeles in 1941 and losing her mother shortly thereafter. Raised by her uncle and aunt, Vincent and Anne Mangold, she developed a strong sense of determination and independence.

Patricia was a dedicated student, attending St. Charles of Borromeo Catholic School, followed by Hollywood High School. Her passion for education led her to earn a BA in Elementary Education from the University of California, Los Angeles. This passion blossomed into a lifelong career, during which she taught at various levels, dedicating over three decades to education, including significant contributions to therapeutic boarding schools.

In 1959, Patricia married Donald Savage in Las Vegas, NV. The couple eventually settled in Costa Mesa, CA, where they adopted their two children, Christopher and Jennifer. Following her separation from Don, Patricia and her daughter Jennifer settled in Green Valley Lake, CA, where she lived for several years and later met her long-term companion, Jim D'Angelo. In 1987, Patricia and Jim relocated to Prineville, OR, where they shared over two decades before returning to Southern California to be closer to family. Patricia's family was her pride and joy, and she cherished her role not only as a mother but also as a grandmother to Linoyuh and Emma Goldenberg.

Patricia's personal pursuits included a deep love for genealogy. She traveled extensively, even venturing solo to Europe to connect with her ancestral roots, exploring cemeteries and old homes of the Mangold and Weissert families. Her investigations brought her into contact with many distant relatives and fellow genealogy enthusiasts.

Survived by her life partner, James D'Angelo; children, Christopher Savage and Jennifer (Savage) Goldenberg and Jennifer's husband, Theodore Samuel Goldenberg; grandchildren, Linoyuh Savage-Goldenberg and Emma Goldenberg; sister, Joan (Mangold) Bain; and several nieces and nephews. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Joseph C. Mangold; her uncle and aunt who raised her, Vincent and Anne E. Mangold; her half-brother Joseph S. Mangold, and her ex-husband, Donald Savage.

A Celebration of Life will be held virtually via Zoom on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Those wishing to join may use the following link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/8183244058?pwd=rzKLOL6NG7xU5euiyrtncbf0tKquiO.1&omn=83213453162 (Meeting ID: 818 324 4058, Passcode: Patricia).
