Patrick Gille Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 7, 2024.
Patrick Andrew Gille, age 58, passed away peacefully with his wife Sara by his side after a courageous battle with cancer on February 25, 2024. The neighbors nearby heard Blue Jays singing at the time of his death in the middle of the night. Patrick was born October 7, 1965, to Harry and Barbara Gille in Dayton, Ohio. The family relocated to San Antonio, Texas when Patrick was one, and then Hurst, TX where he lived most of his life. He was the youngest of three children and was cherished and loved as the "baby" of the family.

While growing up in Texas, Patrick was musically inclined, playing euphonium and guitar, he was even awarded the prestigious title of drum major at L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, Texas. As a child, he and his family traveled around the US which solidified his love for travel He lived in Japan for 3 years, as an English teacher, where the Gille family flew over to visit him. Patrick enjoyed playing bass guitar, running, cookies, trivia, cooking, Japan, football (Dallas Cowboys), travel, Fantasy Football and his kitties (Wee Wee, Turkey and Mr. Cotton). He graduated from the University of North Texas and began his career at Fidelity, AGI and Next Financial, working as a compliance officer for ten years+. On April 18, 2009, he married the love of his life Sara Almengor. To profess his love, he proposed to her on the Kiss Cam at a Houston Rockets game. Their love for each other was unrivaled and Sara cared for Patrick throughout his journey with cancer. On his last day, Patrick stared at Sara and stated how much he loved her. Sara had the same love for him as well and they were inseparable.

During their marriage, Patrick changed careers and worked at Tiff's Treats as one of Houston's founding employees. He was the longest tenured employee in Houston until he passed. No doubt, he will be missed. One of Patrick's greatest accomplishments was completing 4 half marathons while in his fifties. He also loved and was a frequent winner at Fantasy Football which he shared with Sara. This past year, Sara and Patrick were able to visit Maui, Hawaii where they were featured in the NY TIMES as they were e-biking. Their life was one big adventure filled with love!

Patrick lived his life with grace, respect and a quiet strength and was loved by all who knew him. He had a wicked sense of humor, and his legacy will live on through the stories and humor he shared with those close to him. He was loved, cherished and just a great guy by all who knew him.

Patrick is survived by his loving wife Sara Almengor, Mother Barbara Gille, sister Susan Gillett and husband Nelson, brother David Gille and wife Carolyn, 7 nieces and nephews, 11 great nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father Harry Gille.

Patrick's family would like to extend their appreciation for all the healthcare caregivers who cared for him at MD Anderson Cancer Center for their patient and compassionate care.

Patrick's life and legacy will be celebrated privately with close family members. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed towards MD Anderson Cancer Center [email protected]

I met Pat in the dorm during our Freshman year at Texas Tech, and over the course of our time in Lubbock shared a lot of fun times. Pat was good at sports and loved to compete. We were usually the ones who would call the other guys and get them to play football, basketball, softball, volleyball, or whatever. If we couldn't do that, we'd make up a game and get a group together to play. We were also in a band together and played mostly original musical at various venues in Lubbock, which was a great experience. I wish we could have played one more gig! I think what I remember most about Pat is gift for humor. We competed to see who could make each other laugh the hardest, and I concede, he probably won. His keen and quick wit made me laugh almost every time I saw him. Although we lost touch after we left Tech, I never forgot how much I valued his friendship. I'm going to miss you, man.
