Paul Gerard Holian Sr.

POCASSET — Paul Gerard Holian Sr., of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and formerly of Dover and Wellesley, passed away unexpectedly at his summer home in Pocasset on June 23, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the devoted husband of Susanne (Ferguson) Holian for 42 years; loving brother of John J. Holian of Cambridge, the late Barbara H. Rumsey, and the late Alice H. Frankenfield; and the loving son of the late Alice and John Holian of Cambridge.

He was the devoted father of Pamela Caprio of Boston, Melissa McCarthy (Michael) of Bourne, Paul G. Holian Jr. (Alexandra) of Wellesley, and Amy Zolak (Scott) of Wrentham. He was also "Poppie" to his 10 grandchildren.

Paul served in the Korean War and upon his honorable discharge entered Suffolk University and Law School. Paul passed the bar six months before graduating law school, opened his first law practice in Cambridge and worked as a trial attorney in Cambridge and Boston for over 40 years until his retirement in 2002.

Paul was a former member of Wellesley Country Club and the University Club of Boston.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 159 Main St., Sandwich. A private burial will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 60 Walnut St., Wellesley, MA 02481, in support of his granddaughter, Samantha Zolak.
