Paul Zakrzewski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 18, 2025.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Anthony Zakrzewski, [88], on April 1, 2025 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY. Paul was born on August 22,1936 in Boston, Massachusetts and was cherished by his parents, Mitchell and Lucille. Paul attended Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic School. Paul was family oriented and enjoyed entertaining family and friends; had a kind heart, a great sense of humor, a magnificent cook with a passion for theater, opera, film, art and travelling. He studied theater at Boston College and The Actors Studio in New York City founded in 1947 by Elia Kazan, Cheryl Crawford, and Robert Lewis. In the early 70s Paul and his partner, Wally Harper, collaborated in creating and producing musicals. During 1981, Paul launched The Center of the Acting Process ("CAP") with a varied group of his student actors producing plays such as "The Seagull", "A Murder is Announced" by Agatha Christie, "The Adventures of Pinocchio" (an original script)." Later on, Paul completed his master's in social work and became a CSW working with AIS cases in the Bronx Hospital. Paul is survived by his brothers Joe and Fred Zakrzewski and their wives in Massachusetts. His nephews and nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews, and his decades long dear friend Orison Aguayo of Queens, NY. He is preceded in death by his brother Billy from Rockland, MA. Paul's life spanned generations and he carried all of them within. He was a true gentleman, having grown up in the 40's and 50's, but came into his own in the 60's and 70's. His life reflected all of those periods. From Paul's Boston upbringing and Liberal views, he was always headstrong and opinionated and straightforward. While never shy to debate someone on a myriad of topics, he was always firm and fair. He came to New York in 1960 with a fire and determination to succeed. And he was all about relationships, whether personal or professional, he had the ability to bridge differences and leave an impression. This is where his profession, his art and his social life came together. For many years he thrived as a Therapist and Relationship Coach. He took the time to greet and get to know everyone on his block and always had time to meet new people and make friends. Paul was a devout Catholic and was a familiar face to all at The Church of the Ascension on the upper West Side of Manhattan where he attended regularly. A memorial Mass will be held in the Church he loved on May 3rd, 2025 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The LGBT center at 103 West 13th Street, New York, NY in memory of Paul A. Zakrzewski."
