Paula Tijerina

Paula Tijerina, 85, of Sterling, died on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at her home. She was born on January 26, 1932 in Weslaco, Texas a daughter of Guadalupe and Maria (De Jesus) Sandoval. She married Jose Tijerina in 1988 in Sterling. She owned and operated Danny's Taco's in Sterling for 18 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed cooking, making tamales, crocheting, playing scracth off bingo and listening to accordion music. She adored her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved watching Novelas. Surviving is her husband, Jose, of Sterling; daughters, Belia "Betty" Garza of Sterling and Hilda (Douglas) Thielen of Sterling; sons, Rojelio Garza of Sterling, Eloy Garza of Sterling, Rafael Garza of Sterling, Amador (Trista) Garza of Sterling and Guadalupe "Wally" (Colleen) Garza of Dixon; siblings, Maria Marquez of Mexico, Estela Tejeda of Rockford, Filimon Sandoval of Sterling and Gumesindo Sandoval of Sterling; grandchildren, Brian Garza, Reba Harker, Beau Harker, Chris Garza, Daniela Garza, Jillian Garza, Justin Thielen, Sarah Thielen, Faith Garza, Hope Garza, DaniJo Garza, Tylar Garza, Rylee Garza and Jared Allen; and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sons Ismael Garza and Daniel Garza Jr.; and a granddaughter Erin Allen. Visitation will be from 4-6PM on Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, 505 1st Avenue in Sterling. The funeral will follow at 6 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at 9:30 AM Saturday at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her memory.
