Pen D Standifer

Pen D. Standifer, 65, of Gary,In died tragically, from gunshot wounds he received in his driveway on June 1, 2024. He was born on March 30, 1959 to parents Johnny B. and Addie L Standifer. Pen graduated from Westside High School in Gary, Indiana and went on to attend Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. He received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master's in Education. He never married but lived abroad for a while and then returned to the states, where he taught Special Education for several years. At the time of his death, he was employed at Indiana Toll Road as a dispatch operator.He sang in the church choir at New Hope Baptist in Gary, Indiana. He sang mostly Gospel but didn't shy away from secular music and recorded several albums as a backup singer. He always said God gave him this gift and he wanted to share it with the world. He was a loyal member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.Pen was preceded in death by both parents as well as his sister, Debra A Gooden-Kees, Grandparents, Pen and Lucille Bates and Grandmother Mary Patton He leaves to cherish and celebrate his life, his sister, Dr. Frankie J. Monroe-Moore (Eddie L. Moore) from Corpus Christi, TX., brothers, Melvin L Standifer (Jean Standifer) from Gary, IN, Leonard E. Standifer from Elkhart, IN, Martin L. Standifer, from Gary, IN. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends. A Memorial service will be held June 15 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Powell and Coleman Funeral Home at 3200 W. 15th Ave. Gary Indiana.
