Penny Welch

Penny was born November 5, 1956 to Major C. and Joan Weiss in Olathe, KS. She passed away November 6, 2012 in Wichita, KS. She grew up in Olathe where she graduated from Olathe High School in 1974. Penny later attended JCCC and the Superior School of Hairstyling. She was very active in school on the drill team, gymnastics and diving team. She was also in dance, drum and bugle corp and girl scouts. She was a member of Job's Daughters Bethel #36 and a Grand Officer.

Penny married Harold Russell Welch in 1978 and they had two children, Harold Russell Welch, Jr. and Benjamin Charles Welch, both of Wichita, KS. They later divorced and he preceded her in death in 2007. Also preceding her in death were her father in 1975 and step father, Duane Echternach in 2009.

She is survived by her 2 sons, Harold and his wife Kylie and Benjamin; 3 granddaughters, Justice, Eden and Zimmerly; step granddaughter, Laney; mother, Joan Echternach of Anthony, KS; sister Sally Weiss Osiier of Kansas City, MO; brother Major C. Weiss, Jr. of Anthony, KS; 2 aunts, Sally (Bob) Simon of FL and Billie (Bob) Fidler of OK; 7 nieces, Megan Rhoads of Kansas City, MO, Brandi Horton and Ronda Perlata of Independence, MO, Brooke Moore of Cleveland, OH, Kandice McClure of Harper, KS, Lauren Weiss of Alva, OK and Holly Weiss of Hays, KS; 1 nephew, Major C. Weiss III of Anthony, KS; 12 great nieces and nephews, 2 great great nieces and numerous cousins.

Penny enjoyed fishing, crocheting and knitting but her greatest love was her children, grandchildren and family, along with her cat Callie. She was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by all.

Memorial services will be 7pm, Monday, November 12th at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home with visitation prior from 6-7pm.
