Peter Grams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 18, 2025.
Peter M. Grams (83) of Lynn, MA passed away on July 11, 2025 surrounded by the love and presence of his children. He was born in Lansing, MI on August 25, 1941, the son of the late James Grams and Emaline Gray Grams. He grew up working on a farm alongside his family in Michigan-an experience that shaped his strong work ethic. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan. Though he initially planned to pursue a career in medicine, he soon discovered his passion for pottery. Over the years, he became a highly skilled production potter, best known for his beautifully crafted mugs and custom glazes. His pottery will continue to be used and cherished for many years to come.

Peter was endlessly curious and capable, with a remarkable range of knowledge and talents-from welding and woodworking to gardening and, of course, pottery. He was the kind of person who could help with anything. Whether it was building a deck with his children, tackling yard work, or renovating a bathroom, Peter was always eager to lend a hand. He was a devoted father who shared a loving bond with each of his children. Through his actions, he taught them not only how to use tools and build things, but also how to be kind, resourceful, and generous. His steady presence and guidance shaped their lives in lasting ways. His creativity and kindness left a deep impression on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Atom and Joanne Grams, Skye and Valerie Grams, Harrison Grams and Camila Da Silva, and Eleni Grams-Clark and Cameron Clark; his dearly loved granddaughter, Allie Grams; his siblings: Jim Grams, Judy Heinke, and Bill Grams; many other beloved family members; and a wide circle of dear friends.

The family will honor his memory with a private celebration of life. No public services will be held.

He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered.

Sending love to the wide Grams circle. I met Peter because he used to care for the house I lived in. We have much of his work and I shared it with others.

The first moment I felt a real connection with him was when he described his idea of making perfect skipping stones from clay and scattering them so others could stumble on them and have a moment with a perfect skipping stone.

Peter was so much more to me than a consignor at the Hourglass. I considered him a dear friend. He was so positive and full of energy, even through the pandemic. He would tell me story after story of his younger life, life on the farm and most of all his family. He was a tender soul and I will miss him, his stories, his advice, his talent, his smile.
