Philip (Phil) L. Gagnon CAPE ELIZABETH, ME - Philip (Phil) L. Gagnon, 88, of Hannaford Cove Road, died on February 2nd at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough following a long illness. He was born in Fitchburg, MA, son of Ovida and Yvonne Gagnon, moved to Schuylerville, NY and graduated from Schuylerville High School. Mr. Gagnon served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets. Following his military service, Phil attended Champlain College in Plattsburg, NY and the Veterans Vocation School in Troy, NY. He also completed the General Electric Manufacturing Training Program at Schenectady, NY. Phil had a 32 year career with the General Electric Company where he worked at GE’s Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory’s West Milton Test Site and the Large Steam Turbine Department at Schenectady, NY. He relocated to Cape Elizabeth, ME in 1967 to help establish GE’s Heat Transfer Department in South Portland where he worked until his retirement in the mid-1980s. Phil was a long-time communicant and usher at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Cape Elizabeth. He enjoyed studying the American Civil War and visiting Civil War battle sites. Phil was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Helen L. (Bergin) Gagnon and son, Dr. David Gagnon of Richmond, KY. He is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Gagnon of Ashburn, VA, and three sons: Damian Gagnon of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, Christopher Gagnon of Plymouth, MA and Mark Gagnon of North Bend, OR, and 10 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 26, 2016 at St. Bartholomew Church, 8 Two Lights Road, Cape Elizabeth, ME.
