Phil was a kind, loving, and generous man; his dry humour, intelligence and integrity will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Phil was a devoted husband to Ann for 57 years and loving father of two, Sandra (Brian) Paterson and David (Marcy) Oakley. Phil was a wonderful "Papa" to Jennifer, Andrew, Jack, and Kimberly. Phil was born in England, the youngest of seven children. During the war, he and his youngest sister were evacuated to Canada. His sister later returned to England and Phil was welcomed and embraced by the Harman family in Victoria. Howard, Doris, and son Bob became his second family whom he cherished forever. While in Victoria, Phil met the love of his life, Ann Maclean. They were happily married after Phil graduated from the Forestry program at UBC. His career started with Crown Zellerbach where he was posted to many small communities along the BC coast. Later, Phil went back to UBC to get his MBA and the family settled in Vancouver. Eventually Phil started his own successful consulting company which took him all around the world. He was a multitalented person with a broad interest in a wide range of subjects including tennis, politics, carpentry, the stock market, cribbage, climate change, marmalade making but most importantly his family. The family wishes to thank the dedicated medical professionals of the NICU at VGH for their exemplary and compassionate care. As per Phil's wishes there will be no funeral; in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or VGH Foundation would be appreciated.
