PHILIP D. PROVENCHER Manchester, NH--Philip D. Provencher, 90, of Manchester, NH, died January 26, 2015, at the Elliot Hospital. He was born in Ste. Anne de Bellvue, Provence of Quebec, Canada, on May 31, 1924 to Anita (Paradis) and Everett Provencher. He grew up in Manchester, NH and graduated from Hevey School, a Jesuit school. He enlisted on October 21, 1942 in the U.S. Army and served with the 1st Division, the Big Red 1, as a squad leader in the Allied invasion on D-Day during WWII. He received the Bronze Star; Combat Infantry with 6 Battle Stars and 2 Arrowheads; Presidential Unit Citation; Victory Medal; Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Medal. He also earned the French Legion of Honor Medal. He worked at the Red Cross in Manchester for over twenty years. He then worked as supervisor of licensing for the NH Division of Motor Vehicles until his retirement in 1995. He also worked as a part-time officer for Bedford PD and as an auxiliary trooper for the NH State Police with his partner, and dear friend, Sargent Dick Soucy. He served in the Air National Guard completing 20 years of military service and retired in 1964. Phil was a communicant of Sacred Heart Parish where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the Boy Scout Committee, Troop 135, for many years. Phil was pre-deceased by his parents, Everett and Anita (Paradis) Provencher, Cecile, his sister and his wife of 42 years, Florence "Lu" (Caron) in 1989. He is survived by his wife Mary A. (Marques) Provencher of Warner, NH, his loving children and their spouses: Ron and Linda Provencher of Richland, GA; Rick and Lynn Provencher of Mashpee, MA; Diane and Al Wall of Manchester, NH. Phil had 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Services: Calling hours are 4pm – 6pm on Thursday February 12th at Cremation Society of New Hampshire 243 Hanover St in Manchester. A church service will begin at 10am on Friday 13th at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Manchester, with interment following 12:30pm at New Hampshire State Veteran's Cemetery 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen, with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Phil's name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
