Plez Faulk Obituary

Published by The Reidsville Review, Eden Daily News, or Madison Messenger from May 20 to May 22, 2005.
EDEN - Mr. Plez Comer Faulk, Jr., 64, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2005 at his home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 22 at Growing Oaks Community Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Marianna, Fla.
Born on March 24, 1941, he was a native Floridian who loved his Gators. He was the son of the late Plez and Claudine Faulk.
Plez is survived by his loving wife, Dartha, of 40 years, two wonderful daughters, April Hodges of Eden and Sharon Tanksley and her husband, Mike of Charlotte; but most importantly and precious to his heart were his six grandchildren, Crystal Hodges, 18, Taylor Hodges, 15, Jesse Hodges, 7, Austin Tanksley, 3, Lindsay Hodges, 2, and Adam Tanksley, 1. To the kids he was known only as "Papa'' or "Poppy'' but to him, the children were an amazing gift from God that brought an endless amount of joy to his life. Plez is also survived by his one brother, Everett Lee Faulk and wife, Meretta of Titusville, FL, and his four sisters, Carolyn Sims and husband, James of Marianna, FL, Laura Williams and husband, Leroy of Marianna, FL, Jane Nelson and husband, Roy of Lakeland, FL, and June Laramore and husband, Kenneth of Marianna, FL.
Plez proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and upon finishing his military career began working for Centel where he retired after 29 years as an Area Manager. He had a strong work ethic that ultimately and ironically brought him to Eden where he now calls home. He was a very devout Christian and was a dedicated member of Growing Oaks Community Church. Plez loved going to church and loved those in his church family.
To know Plez was to love him. He touched everyone he knew with kindness, respect and admiration. The many friends he had will tell you that he was a joy to be around. Although he was a man of few words, the words he spoke were always loving and humorous. He enjoyed golfing and spent many days on the golf course with friends. He also spent a lot of time in his greenhouse growing and nurturing an abundance of flowers he shared with those he loved. Plez was always available to all who needed him. He came to the rescue for us all in good times and bad. There was no situation that Plez, Daddy or Papa couldn't fix. He was our rock and the center of our lives.
Plez will most be remembered for two things: his love of the outdoors and the unyielding love he gave as a husband, father and grandfather. He lived to watch his grandchildren play sports, do well in school, and grow as people. Everyone should have been as lucky as we were to have had Plez in our lives.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 21, 5-7 p.m. at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home, 216 Meadowood Rd., Eden.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, N.C. 27375 or Growing Oaks Community Church, 2270 Harrington Hwy., Eden, N.C. 27288.
