Priscilla D. (Hull) Herdman

Mrs. Priscilla (Hull) Herdman, 91, of Gloucester passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2016 with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of the late George R. Herdman, her high school sweetheart, with whom she shared 44 devoted years of marriage until his death in 1990. Priscilla was born in Gloucester on August 27, 1924, to the late Lester B. and Ida (Hodsdon) Hull. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester, a graduate of Gloucester High School Class of 1942. She had worked at several waterfront businesses including Browns Yacht Club, Independent Machine Shop, Rose's Oil Service and at her family owned Gloucester Marina since 1970. Over the years she enjoyed stamp collecting, she was an avid post card collector, with impressive volumes of the North Shore, dating back to first publications. She was a self taught genealogist and created beautiful albums as a legacy to her children, grandchildren, and relatives. She was always interested in connecting with her family, keeping them in her heart, no matter how far away. Priscilla was a generous soul who contributed to many worthy causes, but her special loves were animals and backyard bird feeding. Priscilla is survived by her two sons, Robert G. Herdman and his wife Sandra (Teixeira) Herdman and Kenneth B. Herdman and his wife Shirley (Wilson) Herdman. Her granddaughters Rachel (Herdman) Hull Priscilla's devoted care giver and Rachel's partner James Manning, Wendy Hashley and her husband David, Valerie Coolidge and her husband Mark. Priscilla was affectionately called "Nana Kitty" by her great grandchildren Bryanna Porter, Ryan Hull, Colby Kokos, Lilly and Jared Herdman, Jeremy and Justin Coolidge, and Willow Manning. She is also survived by her sister Carolyn (Hull) Anderson wife of the late Urban Anderson of Manchester-by-the-Sea, her brother Robert Hull husband of the late Ann Hull of Gloucester, her brother-in-law Charleton Herdman, Jr. husband of the late Muriel Herdman of Gloucester, and her sister-in-law Catherine "Chickie" Spinney of North Carolina. Priscilla is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, step grandsons and step granddaughters, and step grandchildren. Priscilla's Memorial Service will be Saturday February 27, 2016 in St. John Episcopal Church, 48 Middle St. Gloucester at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be with her late husband George at a later date in Beechbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Cape Ann Animal Aid 4 Paws Lane Gloucester, MA 01930.
