Quincey Curtis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 26 to Jan. 28, 2022.
We lost a wonderful, Godly figure on January 25, 2022. In early years, he was known as Skinny. After that time because he was a Baptist preacher, he was either Brother Curtis or Q.T. Quincy Thurman Curtis was born in Rhodhiss, North Carolina to Boyd and Violet Curtis on March 6, 1924. Because of difficulties at home, he left at age 16 and joined the ARMY. After training at Ft. Bragg he was deployed a while later to fight in major battles in North Africa, Italy, Battle of the Bulge and was part of D Day. When the war ended, he came back to North Carolina to finish high school and went on to Lenoir-Rhyne University. His dream, being a tremendous athlete, was to major in physical education and fulfill a long time dream of being a Coach. But God had a different path. After giving his life to Jesus, he later felt the strong urge to preach. So, with his wife Helen and two small boys at the time, they left for the Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans for his Master's degree in Theology. From there, his first Church to pastor was in Mexia, Alabama. Next, he went to Southside in Monroeville and then to Sage Avenue Baptist in Mobile where after a total of 38 years he would finish his pastoring of Churches. He retired and began a series of Interims at different places filling in where needed until a permanent preacher could be found. One right after the other there was always a call for him to go somewhere and preach the word of God. Q.T. married Helen Alley on February 16, 1947 and they had four boys, Terry (Jeanie), Bobby, Dwight (Debbie) and Ronald (Sabrina). He has fourteen grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Boyd and Violet, his wife Helen, four brothers and one sister. Q.T. has one brother, Jack Curtis left in North Carolina and one sister, Sandra Frye in Florida. The family truly wishes to thank Kindred Hospice, Tracey Taylor and Mary Kyser. Also Dr. Gerry Phillips for all his years of personal care. A special thanks to Diane Mosley for three years of special care and a loving friend to Q.T. The family has requested in place of floral contributions memorials be made to Meals on Wheels at Dauphin Way Methodist Church, 1507 Dauphin St., Mobile, AL 36604, 251-471-1511. The family will be receiving guests for visitation on Saturday, 1/29/2022 at 3 Circle Church, 150 S Sage Ave., Mobile, AL 36606 from 11:00 AM until the Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM.

I served for a short time as Youth Pastor under QT when I was a student at Mobile College (mid 70´s). He had a great influence upon my early formation as a minister of the Gospel. He was demanding, yet kind and patient, a great preacher/evangelist and an excellent pastor. He was a great and godly man. I´m grateful for the impact he had on my life.
