Quintino (Tino) Diaz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 8, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we share that our beloved father, grandfather and husband, Quintino "Tino" Jesus Díaz of Murrieta CA, departed this world on January 28, 2025. He passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by the warmth of his loving wife and devoted family. He was 96.

Tino was born on January 4th, 1929, in the beautiful, emerald-green, and mountainous region of El Cibao, in the Dominican Republic. He was the 2nd youngest of 12 siblings born to Jose Mauricio Díaz Caba and Maria Dolores Suriel Díaz. Tino was raised humbly in a small wooden house among the flowing rivers, tall grasses and mango groves of The Cordillera Central, in the province of Santiago de los Caballeros. His parents were subsistence farmers; growing and selling tobacco, eating what was organically raised on their land, or grown with their own hands from their humble, but rich conuco (garden).

Tino began working at a young age, which often meant helping his older brothers in their businesses. From an early age, he understood the meaning of hard work, integrity, family and community-values that would define the rest of his life.

Tino's life journey took him far beyond the green mountains of his childhood. Just before immigrating to the United States, he was working closely with Frank Bermúdez, grandson of Erasmo Bermúdez, founder of the iconic Dominican rum brand, Bermúdez. Tino's strong work ethic, positive attitude, keen math abilities, kind heart, and discerning people skills, made him a cherished friend and trusted confidant to many, including Frank. Though Frank pleaded with Tino to stay and continue to work alongside him, the possibility of a more stable and prosperous life beckoned him. And so, with little money in his pocket and little knowledge of the English language, Tino left for New York City in 1958, where his older brother Anjito (Angel) was waiting for him - thus began his immigrant's journey.

Tino only endured one cold winter in New York, and one was enough! After working various jobs, opportunity knocked again, when his close friend asked if he would help him drive his family to California. He jumped at the chance and found himself, once again, standing at the precipice of new beginnings, but this time in Los Angeles, California, where destiny brought him face to face with the love of his life, Maria de Los Angeles "Miledy" Jimenez. They married on September 12, 1964, at La Placita in The Church of Our Lady Queen of Angels.

Together Tino and Miledy built a beautiful life filled with love and unwavering devotion to God, extended family, and their 5 children. They embraced the American dream, becoming U.S. citizens, building businesses, buying and selling homes, educating their children, and welcoming loved ones from abroad into the country; always extending a helping hand and becoming an integral part of the communities where they lived.

Through it all, Tino never lost sight of his roots. He carried the love for his homeland, The Dominican Republic, with pride in his heart. Infusing his home with the aroma of Dominican cooking, sounds of merengue, baseball games on television & radio; and with the laughter and warmth of family and friends, who were his greatest joy.

Tino's final year was spent exactly how he would have wanted; celebrating family accomplishments, mourning losses, dancing, playing the guira, being present, showing up, and sharing his infectious energy and bright smile with family, friends and all who met him.

Our hearts ache in his absence, but we are forever grateful for the time we had, the love he gave, the foundation he built, and the legacy he leaves behind. He will be greatly missed by his family, but especially by his 5 children who adored him with all their hearts.

Te amaremos para siempre, Papi.

Tino is preceded in death, by his parents, Jose Mauricio Díaz and Maria Dolores Suriel, and his siblings; Valentin, Miguel, Pedro, Mima (Aurelinda), Martina, Tobias, Maria, Antonio, Anjito (Angel) and Mela.

Tino is survived by his wife Maria " Miledy" Diaz; his brother Daniel (Deysi) Díaz of Cerritos CA; his brother in-law Juan Anselmo (Denise Llaverias) Jimenez; his five children Angel Rafael (Angela) Díaz of Villa Park CA; Miguel Jesus (Kendy) Díaz of Murrieta CA; Reina Dolores Díaz of Temecula CA; Joseph Alexander (Anarella) Díaz of Murrieta CA; and Isabel Cristina Díaz (Glenn Olivo) of Murrieta CA; his Godson Mauricio Jose (Awilda) Díaz of Fullerton, CA; eight grandchildren, Chanel, Azariah, Justin, Annemarie, Madison, Quintin, Tobias and Lorenzo, and countless nieces, nephews and friends who mourn his loss.

We've lost a human treasure! Although Don Tino is no longer with us physically, his legacy as one of the most genuine and compassionate people will live on in the very souls of everyone who was privileged to have been touched by him.

Don Tino was a unifier, always striving to connect people and build relationships. If you know someone who is Dominican or Latino outside of your family circle, it's likely because of Don Tino. We met him through our daughter, Brittney, and by pure coincidence when he noticed her Dominican bumper sticker, and the rest was history. Without me even meeting him yet, he took it upon himself to religiously check on my family's well-being while I was deployed to Iraq during a 13-month combat tour until I returned home safely. I will always cherish our memories, especially the impact he had on my life for two decades as another father figure, and I feel spiritually blessed to have said my goodbye to him a day before he passed.

My family extends our most sincere condolences to the entire Diaz family for this profound loss, and may you find comfort in the memories you enjoyed with Tino and the example he set for all of us to emulate. May God grant him eternal peace. Familia Espinal
