Mahapatra, Rabindra Nath, PhD, passed away, Tuesday, April 11, 2023.

Beloved husband of Dipti Mahapatra; devoted father of Ashis (Tara) Mahapatra, Ajit (Ritu) Mahapatra and Lily (Neal Andruska) Mahapatra; dearest grandfather (Bapa, Aja) of Rohan and Rishma Mahapatra and Maya Andruska; our dear brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend of many.

Rabi was born in Puri, Orissa, India on December 1, 1942, and attended Banaras Hindu University where he earned a degree in materials science and engineering. He wed his loving wife, Dipti, on June 14, 1970, and they began their journey in the United States by settling down in Jackson Heights, New York. They welcomed their firstborn, Ashis, in 1972 and Ajit soon followed in 1975; Lily was a joyous edition in 1985. They moved from New Jersey to Pennsylvania where Rabi earned his PhD from Lehigh University, and he later continued his innovative work on high temperature crystal materials as a senior staff scientist for the United States Navy (NAVAIR) in Maryland. During his distinguished career, he co-authored numerous papers, wrote several patents and was honored at the international level as a distinguished ASM fellow in 2004. But according to Rabi, his greatest joy and accomplishment was the beautiful life and family he built.
