Rachel MURDOCK Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 11 to Sep. 18, 2016.
MURDOCK, Rachel Leigh
Rachel Leigh Murdock, 32, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2016, at Austin, Texas. Rachel was born in Austin, May 8, 1984, the first child of her parents Frank Murdock and Cynthia (Eltzroth) Murdock.

Rachel spent her childhood growing up with her siblings, playing in the natural beauty of the Lost Pines country of Bastrop, TX, and attended the Bastrop schools. She later moved to Utah where she enjoyed her Utah extended family and the winter sports. She graduated from Ogden High School in Utah in 2002, and moved to Austin. Frequent family trips to visit family in Cleburne, TX, Ogden, UT, Peru and Wabash, IN were some of the loveliest times of everyone's lives, and inextricably intertwined her roots with those of family members with whom she so generously shared abundant great affection. She laughed every time she could, celebrating the wittiness of humans, the wackiness of non-humans, and the unexpectedness of nature.

Rachel enjoyed her volunteer work at the Austin Town Lake Animal Shelter. She loved to and enjoyed rooting for her favorite college teams. Rachel was deeply curious about all things, asked interesting questions, and listened to and thought about the answers. She once said, "I would love to hear about the patchwork of the thoughts and experiences that make up your life because it would add color to my world and I would be grateful. She devoured Dan Brown, Ken Follett, and J.K. Rowling novels, and read the Statesman daily to check out the football news. She showed her affection for everyone's favorite cartoon dog by amassing a great collection of everything Snoopy.

Rachel's last, and one of her most profoundly important gifts, was donation of her organs so that many others could continue life's journey enjoying the same things she so loved.

Our darling Rachel lives on forever in the hearts and minds of all who love her and miss her presence, and the sweetest memories of our times together will keep us close and bring us joy for all eternity.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Murdock of Ogden, UT; grandfather, Arthur Eltzroth of Cleburne, TX; grandparents Robert Murdock and Ada Rothey Murdock of Ogden, UT.

Rachel is survived by her mother, Cynthia Eltzroth Murdock of Austin, TX; grandmother, Divona Thompson Eltzroth of Cleburne, TX; her sisters, Minde (Matt) Beehner of Wallace, ID; Nichol (Ray) Tindol of Cedar Park, TX, Meagan (Michael) Tonry of Missouri City, TX; her brothers Matt Murdock of Pflugerville, TX, Criss (Kim) Johnston of Cedar Park, TX, Michael (LaRhonda) Murdock of Argyle, TX; her nieces, Jessica and Heather Beehner, Brook Johnston; her nephews, Jordan Beehner, Ayden Tindol, Caleb and Logan Murdock and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., September 17, 2016, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78752.

Rachel's family knows that in lieu of flowers, Rachel would have wanted donations sent to Austin Pets Alive or online http//www.austinpetsalive.org/donate/donate-now/

There are no words that can ease the pain you are feeling. May you find comfort in the experiences you shared with Rachel and the total love you gave her while she was here. Hope comes through the Atonement of Jesus Christ and knowing that she will be perfect. No more worry and sorrows. She was such a happy and loving child and will now be what she was meant to be.

I was sad to hear the news. Rachel and I had a class together at Mina Elementary. Though our paths parted ways, she certainly left an impression on me. She had one of the purest, most joyful smiles I have ever seen. It was infectious.

Keeping you all in my prayers and remembering Rachel fondly. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful tribute with all of us.

Spent pretty much all elementary school with her we even had speech class together even when the kids weren't the nicest to us she kept head up & big smile on her face admired her for that. I remember the parent lunches & her dad would flip his denture teeth to make it look like he had metal fangs for the kids. she use to talk about all the time & kids were amazed by it when they finally saw it. I am so so very sorry for your loss, you loss a very special person my condolences go out to you

Until I met Rachel as a little girl, I had never heard anyone say my name as it was supposed to be said. No one has ever made it sound more sweet than she did. Cindy, I can only imagine what this is like for you. For a child to precede a parent in death is not the natural order of things. It is not fair. It's terrible and the worst thing that can happen to a parent. I hope you can begin to heal soon. If not today, then tomorrow. If not tomorrow then soon.
My words look feeble to me and I fear they are of little comfort. Perhaps a quote that has brought me solace will serve you as well.
"Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened."

September 13, 2016

Children are not supposed to go first. It's harder to accept, but for those who haven't experienced it, don't hesitate to share memories with family members. They may cry but it's part of the healing process. Judie

Our thoughts and prayers are with Cindy and family. Memories of Rachael are thankfully recent. At her sisters wedding she looked beautiful and poised. We enjoyed conversing with her and marveled at her memory of us since we last saw her as a little girl. We will always remember Rachael at this special event. Love, Aunt Sandy and Uncle Dale

Dear Cindy & Family, The Lord brought you & Frank to mind several times this past week, & now I know why. Each time I lifted you up in Prayer.

As much as Rachel loved & appreciated life here on Earth, how delighted she must be with the Beauty & Wonders of Heaven! How lovely that her parting gift was the donation of her organs to Bless the lives of others. May your many sweet memories of times shared together bring you & yours much Comfort & Peace.

In His Love, Ann Hinkelman (Motorola)

We remember Rachel as a beautiful child full of mischief and energy. The big adventure into the woods. Breakfast with Frank for flapjacks. The obituary was an opportunity to see her adulthood. We are deeply sorry for your loss.
