Ralph Simon Obituary
Ralph Elwood Simon, age 79, of Moorefield, WV passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2022. Mr. Simon was born on September 12, 1943 in Milam, WV the son of the late Ralph Evers and Myrreah Ivy (May) Simon. On November 1, 1963, Ralph married his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley Jean (Hedrick) Simon who survives in Moorefield.
Mr. Simon attended Moorefield High School, later receiving his GED, and began working at Mathias Grocery for 29 years. He continued working at American Woodmark where he retired after 13 years followed by some part time work at Durgon Farms. Ralph loved to hunt and fish but watching old Westerns was his favorite pastime. He was a devoted family man who loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always putting their needs first.
In addition to his wife, Ralph leaves behind to cherish his memories: a daughter, Theresa Shirk of Petersburg, WV; a son, David Simon (Sandra) of Moorefield, WV ; 4 sisters, Pauline Newcomb (Josh); Evelyn Thorne (Paul); Opal Eye; Shelly McKenzie (Michael); 4 Grandchildren, James Barger (Stephanie); Chelsey Riggleman (Ricky), Jake Simon (Whitney), Samantha Wilson (Michael); and 7 Great-Grandchildren.
Mr. Simon’s family will receive friends on Monday, January 2, 2023 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday, January 3, at 1:00 PM with Pastor Brian Henson officiating. Interment will be in South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg, WV. Memorials may be made to the family c/o The Basagic Funeral Home POB 400, Petersburg, WV 26847. I talked to Ralph almost every day as I walked my dog. I enjoyed our conversations and it was clear he loved his family and he was proud of his son David. I have the utmost respect for Ralph and the life he enjoyed. I will miss him. Rest in peace my friend.
